Expanded CharGen (Enlistment)

An optional rule I've thought about with Enlistment is that if you fail your Enlistment roll, you can get a free roll to Enlist as Citizen (Worker) before being thrown to the wolves as a Drifter (Wanderer). This would simulate getting a job waiting tables at Brubecks, selling Popular Gravitics door-to-door, replenishing SolaCola vending machines, or flipping Big Sentient burgers for AstroBurgers. In other words, not the job you wanted but a job nonetheless.

Also something I've wondered about is how to simulate going to college? Could there be an option for it - or do you just consider it part of each jobs' Enlistment training? How do you handle it In Your Mongoose Traveller Universe?

Hi,

I use the High Guard Naval Support college slightly amended, so a Scholar (who should go to Uni) has to do a first term at college and acquires rank one in a scientific discipline. Honours gets an additional skill roll and failure becomes a drifter (drop out).

Actually I think the roll to see if you become a citizen is a good idea.
