"The Delfy Micro, a drone that looks like a dragonfly--and is about the same size, completed a successful test flight in Delft, Netherlands last week. It even flaps its wings to fly. The drone, which was developed through a project at the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, weighs in at 3 grams and has a wingspan of 10 centimeters--plus it carries a package, a 0.4 gram camera."

the link has a list of pictures, and one shows the camera as being smaller than the end of a finger. Probably not great resolution, but at TL 10+ you may be able to do all sorts of things at that scale (i.e., optical lenses can only get so small, not sure about liquid lenses and other options that are/could be available). At higher TLs I'm assuming you would also be able to get more than 5 minutes flight, possible micro-grav drives, and other options (really tiny dart guns!)

So a Scout or agent or whatnot could fabricate bodies that appear as local fauna, then release them for observational purposes.

good point.

I'd assume a laser/ladar imager plus a conventional camera could make a composite image, plus imaging radar (depending on how stealthy you have to be).

I've a TL9 Flying Dinner Plate made by Naasirka for GURPS Traveller and a TL12 Flying Eyeball for high-end users.
