Does anyone play Rebellion era traveller anymore

Eliot,

Don't let all the poor mouthing (mine included!) fool you, the Rebellion and Hard Times is an excellent campaign setting. Everyone's various gripes with MT and the Rebellion have more to do with metagaming concerns. To put it bluntly, my squawks about the Rebellion are because I now only play with Traveller instead of actually play Traveller.

If you campaign is going to be a long one; years in either RPG or real time, do yourself a favor and do what MT failed to to; choose an ending and decide how the Rebellion IYTU will play out. Even if your PCs aren't involved in any of the high level shenanigans that lead to that ending, the news and other tidbits they run across will leave them with a feeling that the Rebellion is running it's course. My group eventually 'rebelled' against MT's presentation of an eternal Rebellion and began casting around for something else, that's where the 'Wounded Colossus' materials eventually sprang from.

Have fun with your campaign and let us a know a bit about it.

Sincerely,
Larsen

I'm currently planning a Hard Times campaign set in Reaver's Deep. The idea is that the children and grandchildren of the initial characters will link up with MJD's 4I in the 1230-1240 time frame.

Depending on the group I actually get together, it will probably be run in T20 or GT. If I had my druthers, I'd probably use the TNE rule set.

Of course we do!

<Straight IMHO and IMTU>

The Rebellion Era was when Traveller began to get interesting. My current campaign began on 001-1116 and right now we're right approaching 132-1116. Gave us some time to experience some "Classic Traveller" (and will last another 100 days or so...) and then the universe will fall apart. What's better than witnessing great things happen? And the PCs will be at the pulse of time (or at the wrong point at the wrong moment - as you like
).

I haven't actually played Traveller in several years (as opposed to "playing with" Traveller, to use the Whipsnadean terminology) but were I to do so I would almost certainly set my game in the Rebellion era, most likely in Massilia sector. The idea of the once-stable heartland sector suddenly becoming contested territory between 3 separate factions, and the plight of the PCs caught in the resulting crossfire, is IMO the most compelling and exciting Traveller setting/storyline published to date.

The Group that I have been gaming with for the past 2 1/2 years has just about killed the current system they are playing. I've considered trying to run Traveller Rebellion, but for some reason they (the gamers) keep turning into orcs.

I'm trying to convince them that they should form a Vargr scouting party to test the now thinly streached forces that guard the Imperium's border.

Elliot and others,

I think there are more than a few of us, who remain loyal to the idea of a shattered imperium. I am forever hopeful that a sourcebook of sorts could be constructed out the remains of Hard Times and the Rebellion Sourcebook to fill in the gaps.

BTW, did you ever contact the reminants of DGP (Joe, Gary & co) and see if they could be interested in doing more T20. I can only see a resurgence of interest amongst the Great Old Ones, if T20 begins to pump out more print.

Rebellion Era is without a doubt my favourite setting. I have ran one long campaign in 1116-1120 before and i am gearing up for a new campaign in the Spring set in the Solomani Rim - where things really go to peices.

I think to be really successful a MT campaign has to start in the pre-war years - the characters should be familiar with a stable, prosperous Imperium and then, as the campaign goes on and they see the uncontrollable chaos around them they can really grasp the fact that a line has been crossed - and that things will never be the same.

For really epic roleplaying and drama, huge set peices (the clash of entire fleets) and larger than life characters, I think the Rebellion is unrivalled.

But a previous poster is right - you need to have a good idea ahead of time how it is going to work out - you can then lay your foreshadowing and position the long term issues so that you don't suddenly produce (at least in the players eyes) a Deus Ex Machina to wrap it all up (or shred the imperium completely).

The Rebellion and MT is by far my favorite. It has all the elements I like in role playing. I stick to the published MT rules and do not use any home brew house rules.

I am currently running a MT adventure with some of the people from this forum board. It is set in the Lishun Sector in 1118.
