MT Only: DGP Material Status / Updates

Hello all,
Please let me know if/when the Digest Group Publishing material will finally see a release in CDROM or DVD format from Far Future Enterprises.

This material is getting insanely expensive and hard to find and I'm sure most MT fans will be forever grateful if it could finally see the light of day again in a digital format for all Travellers to enjoy.

Look forward to reading the responses on this one. Years are ticking by and sadly still no word on DGP's excellent material.

From what I've seen it featured some of the finest products, artwork and writing for the Traveller universe period.

I've been trying to find a DGP REF screen for a while and so far without much luck. This featured one of the most succinct and well laid out rules summaries for Traveller ever. A digital version of this along with it's accompaning bonuses would be a terrific resource for most Traveller's.

Keep Travelling Megatravellers.

As soon as a deal gets struck, you can be certain Marc will have either Don or I post an announcement. Marc keeps trying. Don keeps trying. I've heard there is some small progress.

Fantastic news. Hey small progress is far better than no progress.

It is always better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness as they say. (Unless your starships oxygen supply is running low and the air scrubbers break down of course but hey in all my Traveller games to date, no one ever brings candles so all is good in that scenario in this corner of the galaxy).

Looking forward to hearing of further news and thank you for your efforts thus far.

Since the board hasn't lit up like a Christmas tree, I'd assume not ;)

Marc would love to get his hands on the rights to the DGP materials for a reasonable price. The current rights holder disagrees with Marc as to what said reasonable price would be, and has disagreed since he acquired them in the 1990's.

Marc learned from that object lesson... hence the termination clauses for T20, GT, and HT: all reverting to Marc being able to keep them in electronic availability.

Yeah, sadly that happens with copyright; sometimes someone comes along, and asks the earth for something that just won't realise those sort of monies. Sucks, but it's life. One can only hope the apparent gold-digger mentality will fade with time, and we'll get access to the material once again for a much more realistic price.

Hiya Yeeeaaaaaaaah... Like that's gonna happen any time soon. Personally, I don't hold with what he's done, so it's highly unlikely I'll ever contribute to his hoped-for coffers.

But you, and I, will buy the CD when it comes out.

Are we seriously talking about a hundred thousand dollar asking price?

Yeah. Probably (CD-ROM). As to the asking price for the rights buyback, your guess is as good as mine; I recall talk a few years back about an absolutely outrageous asking price, but no actual figures were bandied about, likely as not due to either a lack of credible/confirmable data, or NDAs, or whatnot.

And the rights owner clearly isn't willing to bring those figures to light. He could easily create a kickstarter to provide the funds to give the rights to Marc.

But then again, maybe not, maybe this doesn't really fall under a KS charter.

If he gave Marc a price he could put to the public, then Marc could put one up trying to get the funds for the rights, and then turn any excesses into CD copies for the sponsors.

Also depend on the state of the files I guess, unless he simply scans them in.

I'd say that's a fairly safe assessment of the current situation, as I understand things. Those closer to the source will know more, of course, but as you say, it could well be that the current rights holder simply hasn't any current interest in going forward to release the material. Short form: Either he will, or he won't. Time will tell.

From what little I know, the story is less about 'evil greed' and more about sad but honest disagreement.

I just don't want people to be vilified for a situation where there may actually be no villains.

A persistent disagreement of orders of magnitude (note the plural). something about wanting high 6 digits cash up front, last I heard him state it.
