Darrian Concept Art rough

The dress and jewelry were made by me. The wig is off the shelf. I did not do ears, and the Eyes are photocomposited on photoshop.

Oddly, she was born the same day as me, but in some strange place called "Indiana".

This was shot at Coney Island, around sundown. I think in the same area that the film "The Warriors" ends. I have a better shot I am working on, with the sea in the background, reflecting a deep orange light.

BSG, once again you have shown what Traveller needs to see more of. These as a full length models would cause Alien Modules to fly off the shelves. As it takes the existing Intellectual Property and transforms it to the next level.

Too kind, Kafka, too kind!

It is pretty cool starting to look at these sort of things as a solid object. It gives them a certain depth, a realness. For some it may be a shock to depart fro the standard game art fomat, but I am going to experiment a lot more with this sort of thing.

No more a shock then the shift from line art to more complex commercial artist renderings. What I truly despise is artists who go around with lower standards and defend by saying it is "gamer art". The moment we lower our standards, the more irrelevant we become. Whilst, this does not mean everything needs to cutting edge or avant guarde (this is where the "new look" in D&D is failing), it just means that we have to keep an eye to what is happening in the commercial field of other media and draw from its strengths and weaknesses. For instance, as much, as I don't like Animie, it can draw really cool hardware, map a photorealistic texture to the hardware and just as you have shown you have a winner.

Similarly, why does the Scout Type S become an icon for Traveller because it combines the optimism of the early shuttle program with the imagery of Star Wars and puts it together in a basic shape that anyone could draw. Very useful for the Small Ship universe of Traveller. However, with advent of more and more complicate renderings, we see artists always trying to surpass these bars, so why should we not support these efforts. Cost? There are plenty of people who do this as an amateur or low cost or fan effort bring them. Reach out to the art schools, see what people want to build a portfolio. Art contests, advertize on Rendrocity(sp) Hundreds of ways to reduce the cost and still achieve the look.

First off there is nothing wrong with line art. It prints easy and even small pieces are easy to see what it is. I think a nice mix would work. Line art for small corner pics on pages and more rendered pieces for chapter beginings covers etc. Nice take on the Darrian.

Dude, I disagree. Line art has served its purpose and now it is time to move on. It not that it cannot still have aesthetic pleasure such as the line art drawing in the MT Players Guide of a Party, having barbarian, noble and army chick. That remains one of my favorite pieces of Traveller art but it surpassed when I look at 101 Starcrews which takes the concept to the next level.

Have you ever seen the art in Fading Suns (not the covers). The shades and grays add a depth to anything illustrated. My suggestion is start doing what others doing in other industries...the combination of photo, models, layerings and use of shade.

I like it for 1/4 panel size and less. When printing it uses less ink and keeps costs down. Personally for me full on renders would do me better since I do more 3D and other art allthough I do enjoy doing the occasional ink sketch.
