Llellewyloly - Junidy/Aramis
The Traveller Adventure and photo-ops (of the same picture) throughout CT and MT...

I had loads of fun with the Ael Yeal; even if they are only given a half-page, I'd love to see them done up for the d20 rules.

Still there are more:

The Githiaskio (JTAS #16)

The Jgd-ll-jagd (JTAS #17)

The Sword-Worlders (Minor Human, Post Ancient JTAS #18)

The Girugh'kagh (K'kree Subject Race, JTAS #21)

The Hlanssai (Vargr Extends, JTAS 22)

The Dynchia (JTAS 24)

The Prt' (JTAS 26, Challenge)

The Sabmiqys (JTAS 28, Challenge)

Also there were Canoncial Races on the Traveller Digests and the Megatraveller Journal, both were from DGP, which createt fantastic supplements for Traveller. Also there are some Canonical Races on other Resources from FASA, Group One, Judges Guild, Sword of the Knight Prod. and so on. Since I am moving on shedule, i don't have Access to my resources. I am a Traveller Gamesmaster and Player since the begining of it all.

It could be (almost must be
) but I'm not encouraging anyone to break it just for the heck of it

But this is an excellent post and a well deserving topic for new life, kudos and welcome aboard "Starbound" Torsten :D

Hello,

and thank you.

Since I already mentioned it.

There are about 400 known alien Races in the Vicinity of the Imperium, over 40 of them are minor Human (not accounting the Post Ancient minor Humans, which are not recognized as minor Humans by the AAB ;) ...). In several Resources, even with briefs, I can account about 130 to 140 minor Races (Uplifts too are not counted). Then there are mentions on the Alien Modules 1 - 8. There too are minor Races Mentioned. Aslan Space is poor with alien Species, Zhodani is rather rich, as is Vargr, Hiver and Solomani Sphere. The genocidal K'kree have eliminated a great deal of carnivorus and omnivorus races which didn't acknowlede their "Rules".

In my interrim Campaign I created two Major Races. The First, called the Sirrkardan, are 3 Sectors displaced from K'kree Space. The second, called the Argrush, are on the Far Side of Aslan Space. Both are untouched by the Ancients... The Argrush are a astounding species of parallelism ;) ... I will both present them here, given time, and wish some critics then perhaps.

Greetings

Torsten

* Humans are listed on both the major and minor race lists due to the multitude of "native" human worlds caused by the Ancient seeding project ca. -300,000 imperial. According to the books, there are 3 known major human races, and 46 known living minor human races. Currently, I have the names and/or locations of some 14 living minor races, counting the Floriani twice, and not including the Loeskalth, who are believed extinct or assimilated by the Vilani but who survive (_Fate of the Sky Raiders_; FASA).

Some Azhanti High Lightning cruisers seem to incorporate names of Ancient- displaced human races. Some possible unverified names for human minor races extrapolated from AHL cruiser names: Azhanti, Sylean, Fiorin, Acheron, Ilurian, Luriani.

This situation is further complicated by Solomani and Imperial genetic experiments which have resulted in additional races.

** The Aslan are listed on both the major and minor race lists due to the recent discovery that they developed hyperdrive from Solomani artifacts, namely the starship TRS _Pathfinder_. Despite this, they have been included as a major race for some 3000 years, and are one of the most vital aliens in Known Space, thus justifying their continued listing as a major race. No flames about "major/minor" race designation racism please!

*** The Chips are listed on both the minor and uplifted race lists due to their accidental and unpredictable evolution of intelligence in response to their exposure to advanced silicon materials and circuits in a crashed Terran vessel during the 7th Interstellar War. They may currently be considered either (1) extinct after the nuclear bombardment of their homeworld in 1127 (assuming none were off-world) or (2) still extant as the Virus.

**** The Eslyat and the Murians were originally from Paranoia Press's _The Beyond_ and _Vanguard Reaches_ sector products, and therefore are no longer strictly "canonical" Traveller aliens. However, DGP's _Solomani & Aslan_ still shows governmental units labeled with their names in that area, albeit differently placed than in the PP products. So the question is open....

# Miniphants might not quite qualify as sentient. The issue of JTAS they appeared in (#16) stated that they had an intelligence of 2-4, and they do seem to fit the group above, so they got put there.

Major Races, Minor Races, Humanity, and Aliens

Major Races

The "major" races are called such because they have all developed jump drive independently, and/or forged a multi-sector domain using it. Of the major races, three are human, one is geneered, and four are natural aliens.

Race Home World

Droyne Eskayloyt/Spinward Marches (Actual position unknown)

The Droyne are the survivors of the Ancients. They are a multi-part race; an individual "castes" to become a member of a subspecies suited to a particular role. Uncasted members do not fully develop and live as Chirpers. Psionically inclined. See Aliens 5: Droyne and Adventure 12: Secret of the Ancients.

Fteirle Kusyu/Dark Nebula 1919 (Kil'rai) (Aslan)

Evolved from carnivorous hunters, they developed a society structured by clan; no central government. Culture places great value on honor to balance natural aggression. Their society spans 17 sectors spinward of Solomani space. See Aslan & Solomani and Aliens 1: Aslan.

Hivers
Guaran/Ricenden (Guaran) 0827

Evolved from gatherer/scavenger stock with six-fold radial symmetry standing about 1.5 m high weighing about 150 kg. The head is a limb modified with extra sensory organs (eye stalks, tentacles, and infrared sensors). The other limbs are used for locomotion or manipulation. No verbal speech, they communicate by ideographic sign language. They are more curious than humans. Known for their superior electronics & computers. They prefer subtle manipulation to physical confrontation or overt action. They dominate a several-sector domain trailing of Solomani Space. See Aliens 7: Hivers.

K'kree
Kirur/Ruupiin (Thirty) 1315
(Centaurs)

The K'kree developed from hexapodal herd animals, developing intelligence for defense. They have a several sector realm trailing the Vargr Extents and the 3rd Imperium. Their herd mentality makes them happier only when accompanied by their extended family/herd. They are quite claustrophobic. They are arrogant, conservative, and militantly anti-carnivore. See Aliens 2: K'kree.

Solomani
Terra/Solomani Rim (Terra) 1827
(Humaniti major)

Solomani humans come from humaniti's original home: Terra. Solomani are known for their curiosity, impetuosity, and belief that they should rule scattered humaniti. Of all humaniti, only the Solomani display ethnic diversity (because each other human race grew from an undiverse initial population). The Solomani Confederation is an 8 sector domain rimward of of Imperial space. See Aslan & Solomani and Aliens 6: Solomani.

Vargr
Lair/Provence (Grnouf) 2402

Geneered by the Ancients 300K years ago from terran canines. Their mental capacity was uplifted to sentience and their fore paws were reformed as hands. They are spread over 18 sectors with no encompassing government coreward of Imperial space. See Vilani & Vargr and Aliens 3: Vargr.

Vilani
Vland/Vland (Vland) 1717
(Humaniti major)

Taken from Terra 300K years ago by Ancients. Developed jump drive and built 28-sector 1st Empire (Zira Sirku), which lasted a few K years before falling within 2 centuries of meeting the Solomani. Pure stock Vilani known for long life span (up to 200 years). Group-oriented culture known for careful, deliberate planning. See Vilani & Vargr.

Zhodani
Zhdant/Zhdant (Gaval) 2719

(Humaniti major)

Taken from Terra 300K years ago by Ancients. Developed a society stratified by psionic ability now dominating a several-sector domain spinward of Vargr space that eventually came in conflict with the 3rd Imperium in Spinward Marches. See Aliens 4: Zhodani.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Minor Alien Races

Alien Races are non-human intelligent races found within known space. These count as "minor" because they did not develop jump drive on their own. Races created by genetic engineering techniques (geneering) are noted.

Minor Humaniti

All minor human races derive from two sources: either they were removed from Terra about 300K years ago by the Ancients and left in various places (and managed to survive after the destructive fratricidal war that destroyed the Ancients) or they were developed some time during the last 2000 years by Solomani genetic engineering techniques (geneering). These races count as "minor" because they did not develop jump drive on their own.

Left by Ancients 300,000 years ago. Since dropped to primitive conditions. Never very numerous; now live on a restricted reservation. See Alien Realms.

Iziri

Izir/Ustral Quadrant 1126

Geneered race designed for harsh environment, thin atmosphere and bad radio conditions. They can communicate across long distances (klicks) by sound. See Aslan & Solomani.

Jonkeereen
Jonkeer/Deneb 1324 (Vincennes)

Geneered race designed for desert existence. Originally designed for a desert planet in Gushmege to counter Suerrat expansion early in the 400s, they were developed by SUSag on Jonkeer in the 500s and developed their own subculture in the 600s. See MTJ3.

Khulan

Khula/Vland 1919

Died out thousands of years before Vilani Scouts arrived in -9309 ti. See Vilani & Vargr.

Loeskalth
somewhere in Gushmege

(Sky Raiders)

Extinct race who got jump drive from the Vilani and got aggressive. Before the Vilani finished them off, a massive asteroid ship took off across the void about -4500 ti. Emerging on the other side, they became known as the Sky Raiders, legendary across Far Frontiers Sectors. Eventually, civilization aboard their world ship broke down; many left and colonized worlds in Far Frontiers, interbreeding with the Vlazhumecta (qv). See Fate of the Sky Raiders and TTC5.

Mal'Gnar Mal'Gnar/The Beyond 3002

Humans geneered by Ancients to fly, with feathered wings and retractable feet. Tend to remain aloof from Humaniti and hate Droyne. They are reported as interfertile with humaniti, but I'd hate to see a cross-breed! See The Beyond.

Mermani
Phaedrus/Alpha Crucis 1006

Humans geneered by Imperial research scientists for existence underwater, featuring large webbed hands and feet, no body hair, flat or external ear, wide noses that seal (I guess like a seal's), and unpigmented skin, leaving them the color of alabaster. See TTC5 "Mermani Descent."

Murrissi
[uncertain Coreward Hierate location]

Nexies
Nexine/Spinward Marches 3030 (Mora)

Nexine is an underpopulated water world being "reseeded" by the Ministry of Conservation (as of 1105) using biologically altered humans. No description available. See Supplement 3 Spinward Marches.

Suerrat
Ilelish/Ilelish 2907

Shown as picture in Aslan & Solomani.

Sydymic
Sopater/Ley 2929

Aggressive minor race controlling a subsector-sized domain. 2.4 m tall! See Ley Sector.

Syleans
Sylea/Core

Human minor race responsible for the Sylean Federation, which became the 3rd Imperium.

Tapazmal
Dlaekan/Reft 3134 (Moiban)

Geneered by the Ancients for low birth rate. later raided by the Loeskalth before annexation by the Zira Sirku. See TD20.

Thaggeshi
Thaggesh/Vland 2530

Primitive human race found by the Vilani in early -9100s ti. (Since then, probably subsumed by Vilani for the most part.) See Vilani & Vargr.

Vlazhumecta
(planet)/Far Frontiers

Human minor race contacted by the Zhodani about -4900 ti. They got jump-drive from Zho traders. After rapid expansion, they collapsed under the strain of maintaining colonies far away. The Zho came in to clean up the pieces. Many mixed with Loeskalth (Sky Raiders), who colonized the same area when their Sky Raider civilization fractured about -3900 ti. See TTC5 "Far Frontiers."

Yileans
Gashigan/Gashigan (Gashlikan)

Wuans
Wu/Magyar 0203

Self-geneered race designed for industrial production. Workers are single-minded and physically tough. Managers have more cerebral flexibility. See Aslan & Solomani.

Zaris
(planet)/Glimmerdrift Reaches N
(Zairae)

Humans geneered by Ancients as labor; designed to be non-interfertile ("profound biochemical differences") to avoid contamination by wild warrior strains of humaniti. Race possesses latent psionic link that provides stability and quick reaction to disasters. See Glimmerdrift Reaches.

Technically, since GT is an alternate timeline would alien races from this be considered canon across the other versionso of Traveller?

IMO, the GT races should only be considered canon for GT, not the rest of the OTU.

There's no reason why they shouldn't be. We know that the OTU has lots of minor alien non-human races in it, why shouldn't these be some of them?

From a design perspective, they were originally written by David Pulver for the old Spacemaster RPG, so they are a little different thematically from the usual Traveller fare. But they've been integrated quite well as it is.

And bloody hell kafka, where'd you get that list from? Don't tell me you compiled all that just for this thread... ;)

Sic!

At least they aren't as weird as those uplifted animals from T20.

The Argrush (IMTU) at the Spinward/beyond the Great Rift and Rimward the Zhodani Consulate are an example of paralelism, they are no upliftet Animals and were untouched by the Ancients.

The Argrush have a history of about 120 000 years of recorded events. They still had no contact with Solomani and Imperials.

Do you know the Telarite from Star Trek, only in rough physiognomie you will have a picture of them. They are quite diffrent, as you will see.

The Sirrkandan (trailing/corewads from the Two Thousand Worlds) are a completly different story. They were never intended to be a player race, instead they counterbalance the K'kree and will be so alien in their ethics and physical makeup that most other races would view them as a true evil. Imagine a cold blooded race whose racial drive is pure conquest... other races exist for them only for three purposes... battle-thralls (which might be well respected by the sirrkadan mainstream), slaves (races which only have marginal respect in the sirrkadan society) and foodstuff (sirrkadans are carnivores...). To their racial drive of conquest comes a scientific cunning, which puts them ahead of most other races within their reach (TL D-G on most World of the Core). Slave races are subject to strict rules. Battle Thralls live in a relative Freedom. Foodstuffs are interdicted on their planets and colonies. The K'Kree had some contact with Surveyor-Ships from that race, every battle fought with them, the K'kree ended on the loosing side.

Both races are IMTU so called major races, although I do find this Vilani oriented system cumbersome.

The Argrush control a region of seven sectors, the Sirrkadan control ten sectors... Further info will follow.

With regards...

So, the GURPS stuff is from SpaceMaster?! Who'ld-a-thunk? That was one of the things I didn't like about SpaceMaster, though - its setting in general was not broad enough. Some of the aliens were wierd (rather than alien), the whole Transhuman thing was just too well-ordered, etc.

Part of the question with Pulver's aliens is ownership of the IP.

Part of it is GT is specifically an alternate universe, and not the OTU.

Part of it is that it is usually easier to convert to GURPS than from it.

Part of it is many Grogs are offended by the very idea of GT, let alone it cross contaminating "Real Traveller." I myself am not THAT far, but I am close to it.

Part of it is the advocates for inclusion of GT themselves, some of whom seem to believe GURPS is the "One True Way".

Hardly,

I am too using some of the GURPS rules. But not to much of them and I rewrite the Aliens in the sourcebooks back into either classical or MT format.

I also have access to T4 and TNE, especialy T4 is viewed by some of my older players as the true evil.

I don't think so Traveller in it's many incarnations has always the same background.
