MJD, I notice that there is quite a proliferation of non-official TNE futures out there...from Candles Against the Night to the phenomenal Crucible Campaign. Are any of these influencing your writing on 1248. If so, do leave open the possibilities of them joining in the 1248 project, perhaps, as a future supplement.

Now, I realize that 1248 is your baby and everything that you have written about it and other things look great...but these fans sites are also great, even if they offer a slightly different vision akin to corrective lenses.

BTW, this thread will probably disappear, like it did previously but I was wondering your opinion about this.

Recognising fan sites is a can of worms I won't be opening ('if his, why not mine?').

As to Crucible, my understanding is that that is Peter Gray's '1248-compatible' campaign, no? Ever since Peter's rather personal attack on me and his demand that I be killed, I've been opposed to using any ideas of his. So no, that one isn't ever going to be official.

As far as I know, Peter glanced at my 'possibilities for 1248' post dome years ago on TNE-RCES and produced a campaign that was 1248-compatible (his words) without any further reference to me or the actual 1248 campaign. I know of one instance where his work directly contradicts the 1248 storyline (because it was brought to my attention as a possible copyrifght breach - but it turned out to just be a casual refernce to something in 1248 and was based on an incorrect assumption anyway)

I can't see any way to reconcile Children of Earth or Mr Gray's prolific writingsa with the official 1248 background.

But by all means enjoy and/or use them...

Postscript: Peter Gray is still killfiled as a result of demanding my death (!). I have no idea what he's producing these days and I don't care.

I won't be looking.

From my earlier interactions with Mr Gray, it seems that he's obsessed with the Regency being a metaphor for the US (and I'm Satan for making the Regency not whierr-than-white and triumphant). Questions like 'who is Lincoln to Norris' Washington?' are officially irrelveant to the 1248 backgournd.

I'm writing a self-contained game universe, Mr Gray is trying to model the history of the US as he idealises it using the Regency and other fictional powers. I'm not seeing any compatibility here.

And besides, I find death threats tireseome.

It boggles me how obsessive and borderline psychotic Traveller fans can get about a bloody game, it really does. Death threats? Oy vey.

Sorry, I wasn't aware of the history of Death Threats...

I just found some of things he wrote interesting and could be applied to the post Regency worlds in 1248 and some parts of his writing paralleled yours but that could just be because you were using the same source material.

But, I also contained the link to sound advice. What do you think of doing 1248 as multimedia event, now, with Hunter's possible move, we do have some extra time on our hands to tweak out and improve on what promises to be a great project.

I hope you called the cops on the little ⌧er. It's not my place to say you should or shouldn't, but if someone threatened me the men in blue would be the first people to hear about it.

Pardon my language, but I take threats seriously.

MJD, if you look at what they did for Chaosium, it was to release a DVD ROM flash slideshow replete with mood music from Midnight Syndicate (their website is located in above mentioned thread - Sound Advice).

They also had some narration setting things up plus additional "Easter Eggs" for Referees and Keepers like Character Sheets.

Combining this with the book or at a minimal cost as a companion to the book would go a long way in sales, I think.

As I suggested art could be original GDW stuff (especially from Twilight brushed up a bit) and the rest is relatively easy, just commissioning the music to give a dark futuristic feel. If you download some of their things, some match perfectly.

Combine that with your writing and easy to find a narrator with some experience with the dramatic, I am sure. Just place an ad or allow Midnight Syndicate to handle that end with your specifications or the good folks of MDS.

That's cool. I like the idea, though I'm really not very sure if we can do it right now.

Surely, Marc has copies of Twilight art that he can lend for the project. It would be a simply matter to airbrush logos instead of the Stars & Strips.

As to to flash compoient and narration MDS and Midnight seem to have experience there. They just would need a script to work from. Parts of your novels and short stories set the mood nicely.

Plus, whatever 1248 goodies might offer...

Or are we back on production schedule for 1248.

Notwithstanding, I am not in the publishing business but what is the turnaround time for a manuscript, surely it is long enough that we could get something like the multimedia pack together in time to coincide or at least approximate the release date.

Although, I am sure that Hunter is eager to get sales going as fast as possible. Secret would be the two stage release plan. One PDF and the other deadtree that he alluded to earlier. I will always go for Deadtree (unless they are Avenger products) but others might not be so picky. This buys us some time and if other supplements to cover different areas of 1248 are being lined up, the multimedia product can an excellent lead-in.

I also vote for the deadtree version. I can carry it on the train and show it to people on my way to work...LOL
