Cover in CT combat Rules

I'm using AHL/Striker rules with some modifications:
-2 for being prone or being behind soft cover (bushes or the like)
-3 to -5 for being behind hard cover (depending on the percentage of the body covered)

Has anybody got an idea how to integrate the CT rules for telescopic sights into the AHL-system? If for example a player wishes to buy a scope for his rifle, should he get a DM+4 on shots at a range greater than 50m or not? And what about laser rifles, gauss rifles, advanced combat rifles etc. which are stated to have electronic sights (thus their stats probably were designed with their sights in mind)?

I would think whatever DM is listed in the basic books would apply to the AHL rules. It's been a while since I cracked my AHL supplement that came with the game, but doesn't the AHL system (similar to Snapshot) use the basic 8+ to hit roll?

If I recall correctly there's some minor variations on combat specifics, but the basic mechanic is pretty much the same with the rest of the Traveller interpersonal combat system. I hope that's correct.

Well, the to-hit rolls are 8+ for effective, 10+ for long and 12+ for extreme range.

But I just had a closer look at the range modifiers of the original combat system and for example the laser rifle there has got a basic to-hit roll of 7+ (at very long range...without armor DM) while in the AHL system it's 10+. I have no idea why the to-hit rolls are so low... Guess one can allow the DM+4 in AHL without any problems.
