CoTI London Pub Meet (was Gencon UK)

DElrick

SOC-12
I've moved this off the Gencon UK topic as things were getting a little confusing, between the conversations about Dragonmeet and the London pub meet.

So, from the comments on the other topic, the 2nd October appears to be better for everyone.

Because people want to get away from London early, I suggest we meet up around 1:30/2:00 pm and aim to wrap up somewhere between 6:00 and 7:00 pm, allowing people to get home after the football crowds and before the Saturday night nutters.

Which leaves only the pub to be decided - either the Cock on Fleet Street or the Knight's Templar on Chancery Lane. I don't know either pub, so I don't mind. Elliot, do you have a preference?

So - who is going to be there?

Cheers

David

I may be busy that weekend, I don't know yet. But provisionally yes I'll be there.

Will anyone else be coming up from Kent?

I'm confused (it so easily happens), is this going to be just a casual social meet or a gaming session? Personally I'd rather it were just a social meet.

Hirch suggested a game, but no-one else has picked up on the suggestion either way so far.

Much would depend on the attitude of the bar staff when the dice came out (I know some pub owners get sniffy, because it looks to the casual observer like gambling and I suppose they get worried about the implications for their licences).

I don't have a strong opinion either way. I'll run a game if the majority want one, but it would just be nice so sit round a couple of beers and chat too (and put faces to names, obviously).

I'll check which pub is best for a Saturday (I work around the corner from both venues, so i'll go into town on the pretext of having to pick up some work on Saturday)

I'll tell you which pub is more suitable for a Saturday meet on, err, Sunday (hic, hic
)

> colonies...

How about if we finish earlier, so you can catch your plane? ;)

I have a wedding to attend on the Sunday but I'll see what I can do about making it up for at least some of the day.

- Neil.

From what I remember from Saturday, I think the Knight's Templar was the better of the two for an afternoon meet - although there was a private party in the evening - so why don't we meet at The Knight's Templar on Chancery Lane at 2.
There were no TVs for football so no football fans.

in london

off Fleet Street - near Temple or Blackfriars tube
off Holborn - nearish Holborn tube
10 minute buses to Fleet Street from Liverpool Street station and Charing Cross

> Where is Chancery Lane?

About a third of the way along Fleet Street from the Charing Cross end, heading North.

Or... one stop along the Central Line from Holborn.

I'll have to get my map out. I know where the London Eye is, London Aquarium and the big IMAX cinema by Waterloo, that's about my knowledge of the heap that is our nations capital.

Its near Waterloo - get a 172 bus (or any bus heading to St Pauls). Get out by the Royal Courts of Justice and walk past the Courts and turn left by Hammicks book shop.

Or you can walk it from Charing Cross in about 5 minutes.

Come out of the main entrance of Charing Cross onto the Strand (the big road that goes left to right in front of the station). Turn right and walk along the street until you see the Royal Courts of Justice on your left. The Strand becomes Fleet Street somewhere around here. Chancery Lane is one of the turnings on your left after the RCJ.

Cheers

Ah the joys of London, nothing that couldn't be solved with a small nuke. I hate it, but I'll still turn up.

So, are we still on for this Saturday?

So far it's Ben, Elliot, Hirch, Nellkyn, me and possibly Binky (if he can get away).

I know some of you, but not all. How should we identify each other?

Cheers

Well, either there's the 'innoculous phrase' that you work into a conversation with a stranger to test them:

The Chirpers are restless tonight.

Response: But they aren't even Droyne.

Or we could all just carry a Traveller item (an LBB, an original JTAS mag, a BITS item, etc).
