My article for Stellar reaches concerning improving the LBB2 ship design and combat rules can be found here; it is composed of my ideas as well as many ideas posted by various members of these forums (used with permission and credit). Feel free to use and/or abuse as long as you credit the authors.
 
Looks good - seems to be right on the lines we're looking for and has benefited from some committee development already.

I've not run many ship combats myself so I don't really get a feel for how balanced or dangerous this will be. Do you have any sample combats in electronic form? (Or maybe I should get off my lazy backside and try it out myself!)

The addon modules at the end look to fit very nicely with the CT+ premise.

One thing that would be nice is if this could interlock with standard combat, maybe some conversion factor for penetration and armour between ship and personal levels.

It doesn't have to be seamless, i.e the conversion doesn't have to be 1:1, but it would be nice if there was a way of translating you laser rifles penetration into ship level, and ship weapons pen to personal level.

And certainly that should be the case for grav tank versus ship and vice versa.

Striker has rules for such a thing and since penetration/armor is from there it'll be easy, IIRC.
 
Like I keep saying (over and over and over), if we're going to do the LBB2 thing then we should allow for all ships at all TLs - i.e. a TL9 world should be able to construct 5,000 ton ships, even though they'd perform worse than the same-tonnage ship from a TL15 world. I think T4 was trying to do this, and if it weren't for the QSDS not being Q (quick) in any way whatsoever it'd have been good. Just go with tonnages and not volume...
