Communications in Jump Space

SOC-14 1K
Based on Canon or player variations: Are fleets or convoys travelling in close proximity too each other allowed to communicate with lasers, mesons, masers, radio or any form of communications (morris code flashing the ships lights). Given that they jumped from a similar location and are heading to a common destination?

To the best of my knowledge the canon answer is a ship in jump is a universe unto itself. Therefor no communication with other ships in jump or not.

In canon, no - the bubble that keeps jumpspace out of the ship very specifically keeps ships from communicating, as each is on thier own little pocket of jumpspace.

This adds to the rolplaying possibilities, as a ship is truly and completely isolated when in jump - all sorts of adventures and mishaps can happen and you are alone to try to figure it out.

I did run an adventure once where a group was working on a method for providing in-jumpspace communications, but the methodology was flawed and allowed a jumpspace intrusion into the ship, killing the crew. The party later tried to salvage the ship, along with a few other interested groups.

However, I treat the communication blackout and jump-6 barrier the same in my game - lots of people are trying to sidestep them and spending tons of money on research, but it just ain't possible. Makes for som egreat Red Herrings though.
