Combat Environment Suit

one of my all-time favorite Traveller items.

I like the extra-detail GURPS gave it, with the tight molecular mesh that protects equally well against Impaling attacks, rendering the GURPS needlers useless.

BTW -- has anyone got a good example picture or remember what this armor might look like ? (either from a URL or a movie/tv show or even anime).

OK, resurrecting an old thread - 'cos I'm new here......I always imagined the Combat Environment Suit to look something like this:-

....the Federation Trooper from Blakes 7. But that's maybe 'cos that's the kinda thing that was on TV at the time when I started playing Traveller!

gray: Very nice. This is actually how I would picture a stealth version of Combat Armor, but I can see it as a CES as well.

A body sleeve is a Superman costume. CES is described as loose-fitting. Exactly how a loose fitting uniform protects from bullet impacts is a mystery to me, but that's Traveller for you.

So they're actually producing liquid armour now? I independently 'invented' that IMTU years ago - based on cornflour and pistons. (The principle was based on them, not the armour, wiseguy!) 'Nanofoam' wetsuit-like bodysuits are a base layer of my Battledress.

The technical term is "non-newtonic fluid." Presumably the CES is woven *(from super aramids? carbon nanotubes?) and impregnated with a non-newtonic fluid.

This is an official version. Note that the standard troops have a tissue enveloping cap hold by a rigid ring (...that look like a medieval crown) Commanders wear a standard enclosed helmet.

If you mean either a "bulkier" version of the GitS stuff or the suit itself being a non-bulky CES, then I'm right with you.

Though in my opinion, CES ought to be sealable against vacuum.
