Cold Space RPG

I just looked in to finding reviews of this game with the thought of using the setting (modified) for an alternative history that could lead to a Traveller vibed game (slug throwers and Jump drives) based in the past (1980+)

Does anyone have this game? if so could you cover more detials about the setting?,

Well, got a copy and it fell rather short of my expectations :nonono:

So I will be setting up my own vision of a modern day space faring game (which could be why their game fell short, mine is better :P )

Imagine everything you see in a TL 12 (ish) Traveller game but set in 2010 Earth time, the Scouts, the Navy, the Marines but all happening now,

New worlds to see that are not that far from Earth, Terraforming Mars and other colonies, factions based on Earth nations and corporations,

Everything fresh, not a load of stars linked by jump points travelled a Centillion times,

But so far no Aliens.........

Hopefully you are piping this to Mongoose...

I would also like to see this game but not set in 2010 more likely 2080 with all the branches sort of slowly out growing their terrestial counterparts. The Navy being a sort of Space Force growing from the Air Force, Astronaut and Navy program...Marines growing from the Special Forces and Army, Scouts growing from the Navy, etc.

Well, no just for me and those interested,

It starts after WWII with Einstein, members of the manhattan project, and the Philadelphia Experiment,

At the start of the game some parts of space have been colonized for over 50 years, (it will have a long back history), with much of that time only using J-1 drives,

Scout came in to being from an out growth of NASA and Air force, later bringing other nations versions of the scouts together,

Navy (wet) became Navy (space) due to there structure, (which delt with the function of mass crewed ships)

Marines are a new branch,

Merchants started as private and mostly corporate interest,
(miners to begin with, later to branch out)

A suggestion, I've always found the jump from wet navy to star navy illogical and hard to swallow. But I did come up with a rationale for my never-played Space: Above and Below game. Have the US Navy go deep in the 21st century, helping to explore and colonise the seabed, create elaborate self-contained habitats, etc. When the first military stations are constructed, the Navy gets to construct & operate the new stations based on their experiences with the deep sea habitats. And it just develops from there...

I assume deep space jumps are common in your game then since almost everything in our neighbourhood is seperated by more than 4.3 LY

the most logical reason possible. especially from the submarine or aircraft carrier arms depending on ship styles and sizes

The first jump ships are huge, (but with few crew) they are like the centrifuge based ships used in the movie 2010, or early babylon 5 Earth ships, (artificial gravity based tech not showing up in labs till the late 60's, and only becoming usable in some ships in the early 80's, by the 90's its common in all ships)

They carry enough fuel for long range (in dumpable fuel cells, mostly), and can have multiple jumps, but are very slow to what comes in the following years,

Jump-1 covers one parsec in one week... one parsec = about 3.26 light-years.
