Chivalric orders or at least the Traveller equivalent?

Just a general thought are there Traveller equivalent of Chivalric orders? I was thinking not necessary like the Knight’s templar, but a kind of Geographic society or social club? Are they any that are cannon, and where do I find them listed?

Well, there's always the Traveller's Aid Society. It's similar in its use as a reward for heroism/good work/nobility/etc. I have always pictured it somewhat similar to the hunt clubs in England that catered only to hunters of exotic, big game.

But, I think there is another thread here in MTU that addresses nobility and has some bits on homebrew knighthoods and such.

Where!

But, I think there is another thread here in MTU that addresses nobility and has some bits on homebrew knighthoods and such.

Besides the Long Term Sustainment Thread, I mean? That one I am in and it links out of CotI, is there one here and if so where?

I too am interested in such matters.

GT: Nobles has a section on "Orders of Knighthood", listing one Order for each Imperial Domain, an Order for Vargr citizens, an Order for Aslan citizens, and three Imperium-wide Orders (one for scientific excellence in a field relating to interstellar exploration, and two awarded at the Emperor's whim). It also mentions that there are "dozens" of orders of knighthood, but most are small or only have local significance; no details of any such orders are provided, leaving plenty of room for enthusiastic GMs to create their own.

It does also discuss "honor nobility"and what it means to be awarded a knighthood for achievement in a given area, instead of being recognized for service to the Imperium. It's a more nuanced arrangement than the Normans had, to be sure, but given that they're dealing with thousands of worlds and cultures, and trillions of sentients, you'd expect it to be.

Hospitallers

I have a fairly advanced development of the Hospitallers in a CT (pre FFW) campaign I am running. They are often from the petty nobility, but not necessarily. They take vows of poverty, and have no individual wealth or possessions, except "arms of the order." These are generally heavy infantry and shipboard weapons, which may be assigned to individual knights on an ongoing basis, but are no more owned by them than Goose and Maverick owned their F-14.

They will typically seek to protect travelers, often with a gunner or two, with triple turrets, seeking working passage on dangerous routes on free traders. Each gunner is, of course, a medic. They eschew battle dress for combat armor, usually TL13, with black livery with a white pectoral cross; there is an effort to mix gauss rifles and laser weapons (carbines aboard and rifles dirtside). They will often befriend scouts on detached duty, cooperating to escort vulnerable merchants or patrol backwater systems. As such, they typically have the patronage of the local subsector- and sector-level nobility. The Duke of Regina is known to favor the Hospitallers with access to naval inteligence, and inside lines on surplus hardware; though their loyalty is to God and the vulnerable, their allies are frequently among the nobility in the borders and backwaters where law is a fragile thing.

I will have to check out GT Nobles, by happenstance I just bought it on EBay, so when I get it delivered, I will answer my own question. I really should of performed a search, but I was surfing and it just kind of occurred to me so I thought this was the first place to ask. While the “Mongoose” Traveller forum seems to have just a little more activity, the lumping of all questions and subjects seems more disorganized and in fact transitory, I like this forums organization and community better.

Canonically, there are the 7 domain orders (Sylea, Sol, Gateway, Illellish, Vland, Antares, Deneb), (and the mention that Norris is the first actual Archduke of Deneb...).. amongst "dozens of orders"

MT IE said:
...the Order of the Emperor’s Guard, established in 52 and
originally limited to the Emperor’s personal retainers but now
of wide and diverse membership, and the Order of Starship
and Crown, established in 17. More exclusive orders have also
been established: the Order of Hlyuea (established to honor
loyal Aslan citizens), the Order of Gvadakoung (established to
honor loyal Vargr citizens), and the Honorable Order of the Arrow,
(established to recognize interstellar explorers). The domains
each have orders named for them: the Order of Antares,
the Order of Wand, the Order of Sylea, the Order of Sol, the
Order of the Gateway, and the Order of Deneb. Of these, the
Order of Sylea is administered by the Emperor himself (as de
facto Archduke of Sylea); the Order of Deneb has only recently
been used, as Norris is the first Archduke of Deneb to be
named.

Note that Order of the Imperial Family is just that; known members include Duchess Margaret, the Princes Varian and Lucan.... etc.

The order of the Wand is either Illellish or Vland; I presume Illellish, as the Bilandin name would likely be used for the Order of Vland.
