I don't use traveller for RPGs but as personal and family Fan-fic.
The characters are members or associates of the merchant clan Whitebow(I used grimbow at first but decided I didn't like it)
The Captain is Johnathan. He is a small, spock-like and bookish character who is famed for his ability to hide his emotions(which can look magnificent in stressful times by the way). He is the grandson of the clan chief and has been trained for years to command according to the standards of an Enders Game-like technocratic guild. Only those who know him suspects he has any feelings. However is also fixed in his nature to be a big brother. He is fiercely protective of his younger siblings and his wife. You can insult Johnathan and get away with it. You cannot insult his little brother. And if(as one warlord did in one episode) you kidnap his little sister and threaten to sell her as a concubine, you can expect him to do something dreadful(namely gather a posse, trek over a dangerous mountain pass, and storm the warlord's lair slaying a large number of his minions, thus advancing his brother's medical career by providing a large number of patients).
Rachel is Johnathan's wife. She is modeled on the New England shipping wives of old, that sometimes ended up as de-facto ships officers. She is Johnathan's super-competent sidekick being able to act as purser and bridge officer. She can find anything in a market.
Johnathan and Rachel are nicknamed "fire and ice" because if he has an icy personality she has a firey one, apt to sudden spurts of energy, and sometimes of unpredictable wrath or kindness. She is also modeled on Sheherherzade(no I can't spell that) and has a gift for tale-telling. In one episode she rescued her husband from rebels on Collace simply by going up to a garrison and asking help from the commandant(who was a corrupt and cowardly fellow who stole his soldier's pay). When the commandant told her that she could buy his favor by "the obvious method" she lost her temper, and instead walked out and imperiously told the soldiers that she paid better then they were getting. Whereupon they followed her and rescued Johnathan.
Aaron is the medic. He is more emotional then his brother. He is a natural knight in shining armor and regards his career as a sacred task. He is intensely loyal to his shipmates and family and is in many ways Johnathan's best friend(Johnathan sometimes in fact regards Aaron as a reinforcement to his conscience; there are few things he fears more then Aaron reproaching him for cutting corners to much). Aaron is one of the sorts of people that are naturally unlucky with girls. While girls like him and he gets a crush every once in a while, he just doesn't know what to do about it.
Interestingly, while Johnathan was originally built to be my "author avatar" so to speak, Aaron is becoming my favorite character.
Naomi Whitebow is the Johnathan's sister. She was the damsel-in-distress in the first episode. I found it hard to build her and I am still working on her. She was a girl-back-home for many episodes though later she traveled with them. This adds a little depth; you would think from many space opera's that no one who does not travel in space exists. However that did not satisfy me so I also made her an "Arbitress" or interclan diplomat and lawyer, kind of like Burn't Njal or Tom Hagen(the idea actually came from Njal's Saga). This gives her something to do.
Enli and Gani are twins. Enli is the electronics officer and Gani is the engineer. I really do need to do more with them.
Hans is the comms officer. He is also a University trained skald from the Sword-Worlds. He and Rachel have a rivalry over who can tell the best tales.
These are some of the characters in my Traveller fan-fic
