Character Gen, JOT & other thoughts

Just pulled out the old MT books (plus errata) and was playing around with the character generation system. I had a thought pop into my head (no injury sustained).
Creating a Scout character with the advanced system, the very first skill rolled was JOT-1. Now you can use JOT to re-roll during character creation after receiving it? Say like a survival or aging roll?

Second thought. Creating a Marine character and using the Brownie Point system. Used a BP to modify the Assignment roll to a Special Assignment. A special assignment would give you another BP. So lose one gain one. Or not? I think not, but then again???

I've always used the BP trade for special duty just the way you note

Sure it seems like a cheat but that's the way it is

Never used JOT during character gen though it seems not too unreasonable.

I once had a little system of keeping tally of the BP during generation and translating them into "favours" owed to various personalities from the character's past. I even allowed advancements on BP. Say you want to mod a roll but have no BP or not enough. Just take an advance and call it asking for a favour instead of calling one in. You'll owe the person big time if you don't generate enough BPs to balance the "account" later though. Again part of my BP role-play notes. I'd post them but the specifics escape me and I doubt they are still around. I'd have to re-brain them
