Character creation questions

Ah thank you. I couldn't remember if that was something I read or same up with, and didn't find it in the rules. :o

On another note, I've noticed that you've mentioned this 'moratorium' before. Is that a personal thing, or a forum rule? I've been holding off on posting my own house rules so far so that more people can get used to the rules as they are to make up their own minds before I do, but it's been awfully tempting.

That's a personal thing. As a member of the development team, I'm making myself use the rules as is for three months without any house rules.

In a side note, I am doing things "by the book" as well, although I am not doing so with the same purity as Don. I am thinking about alternatives out loud at times, although not using them. And I am likely to be a rather reluctant house-rule user.

I wish I had that restraint (assuming I can get a game going this summer at all).

What exactly is the process for adding to a character's skills during their time in college? Is it just that they get the major and minor at 0 and the Edu bump? It also seems to me that it's a little too easy to fail out of college if you have to make 4 rolls and failing any of them botches the whole thing, with a Soc waiver the only possible way to correct it.

First off, I thought there were not any 0 level skills in T5. Second, you get one skill level in your Major ever time you are successful in passing a year and one skill level in the Minor on even numbered years, so at the end of four years you should have Major-4, Minor-2. Passing Honours should give you an extra Major skill, for a total of Major-5, Minor-2.

Finally, it is easy to fail out of college, just like it is in real life. Also, it seems that like in real life the only way to avoid that is to use your social influences to get things waivered. I personally think that rule works just fine.

I agree, and also remember that you're under no requirement to attend College or University if your Characteristics make you leery of your possible success. Trade School is possible, as is direct entry to a Career.

If you're intending to create a Scholar, you can always abandon chargen if you see you have Int 6 and need to attend ED5.
