On a hunch, I picked up a copy of Centauri Knights a few weeks ago (Guardians of Order, 2001). It's a supplement for the game BESM (Big Eyes, Small Mouth). Normally I wouldn't have anything to do with an anime RPG, but CK is an alternate setting that turns out to be quite good, hard SF. (Don't be turned off by the goofy cover illustration -- it's not a good representation of the setting's atmosphere.)
The setting is the Alpha Centauri system about a hundred years after the first humans reach it, although it could be anywhere in a star-spanning campaign. The system is filled with relics and installations of an advanced civilization that's no longer around, from dozens of scattered, enigmatic "tombs" to orbital space habitats. There's a fair amount of nanotech involved but it's not obnoxious. The society that's built up among the colonists includes contract law enforcement agencies, exploration teams, a few opposition movements, people who want to adopt a Centauran lifestyle rather than human, and an underground resistance. All in all, it's a nicely developed and detailed star system with lots of potential for adapting to Traveller (better than a fair number of Traveller-specific products from over the years, I'd say). Well worth picking up if you can find a copy. Apparently, it's available in a d20 version, too.
