brownie points page reference

my question is ,in my old age, i can't find any reference to the normal use of brownie points during regular character generation and I would appreciate a page reference or something .sorry to bug you guys about this my memory is usually sharp as a tack but i cant bloody find it any where,and the dgp alien modules dont mention it either
