Borrowing from MT

SOC-14 1K
Going through MT stuff for the Starport thread, I came upon the basic equipment in the Encyclopedia. Some interesting stuff in there:

+ Commdots: A very short range com-system similar to modern day Bluetooth

+ VidCom: TL14 Short range com with camera and display. Just remember to turn off the camera when unclothed

+ Pocket Medscanner: The classical TL 12 saltshaker. Also exists in a larger version that has an internal expert system in case the Doctor is performing an OP on the missile

+ Mini-Navsats, your "GPS in a carry case" NIRTSSAT

+ Desert Suits for that Wormhunt you have planned

+ Fusion Still that breaks water from other materials

+ Wall patches in case you got hull damage while the Colonel is out setting up the nuke

+ A half ton of survival gear. Welcome home, camper

Just a clarification:

Most of this stuff is from CT (then reprinted in MT). Things like the Comdots and Pocket Medscanner had full write ups in DGP published CT materials (those both came from GRAND CENSUS and GRAND SURVEY).

Just FYI.

Can't say, the only CT stuff I have are the lousy german translations of some material. Jumped directly to MT after that, nver got much DGP stuff, Traveller Journal was an excotic over here.

Sorry to hear that, Michael. The DGP stuff is some of the best Traveller stuff every produced. DGP's quality often out-shined GDW, IMO.

It's incredible stuff. And, their magazines (Traveller's Digest and MegaTraveller Journal), I don't consider magazines. I consider them game aids and supplement material. They're more source books than magazines.

Sure, not everything DGP did was fantastic, but I think DGP has a better Traveller quality record than any other Traveller producer I've seen, back then or now.

Needless to say, I'm a big DGP fan.

I like the tech presented here, but the tech requirements are ridiculously high.

For example the vidcomm should be about TL 8-9, presuming that it's a flatscreen video. Only if it's holographic will I accept it as being TL-E.

Which is why I say that the TL-14 version would be holographic - that'd be the point that they figured out holography on that small a scale.

From the description it uses the same technology as the TL13 holographic HUD so I assume it is a holographic receiver and camera.

I'll second that thought! It's a pity that it looks like there's less than a snowflake's chance in hell of it ever being republished...

The major input of the DGP folks is why I still prefer MT ever so slightly over CT. How many other RPGs have all the rule mechanics that the players must know on a single sheet?

I would love it if I could get my hands on and be able to both pay for and afford paying for DGP stuff.

One more thing that I'm adopting from MT is the equipment list, even though I have firm opinions on the TLs and damages (in the case of weapons) of certain items.

I like the Gauss Pistol, but if it does 4d then the Gauss Rifle does 5d.
