BladeMaker

Rynak

SOC-9
How does BladeMaker work? 2d6 of cuts from a Big Knife makes sense, but what does Pen =C1 mean? Does this mean that it does 2d6 cuts + C1 of pen damage?

Fists does Blow =C1. Does this mean a character does C1 Blow damage? So a character with C1 = 10 would do 10 C1 damage and an unarmored character would take 5 damage (total hits/2) to C1, C2 or C3, correct?

C1 is Strength so it makes sense that Penetration is based on how much muscle power you can put behind a thrust with the weapon.

Looks correct to me.

So, how much damage does a character with C1 = 10 wearing Battledress (C1 x 10) do with a Space Axe?

Is the Pen damage in dice or hits?

Looking at the rules as written it appears that a character in Battledress can cut a Tank in half with a Space Axe.

I'm pretty sure that's not correct.

Looking at the format its in on p260 (there's an extra heading alongside D2 which is "Hits") I think Pen and Blow on this table are given as Hits not Dice.

You've identified a flaw in the rules. Both Armor, Dress and Units get C1 x10 and Oversize x100 and Titan x1000. So yes a Marine with a Big Knife, a Great Big Knife or a Space Axe wearing Battledress and Str =12 could do 120 Pen Hits but wait there's a second flaw...thats 120 Pen every time! Forget about the high Pen for a second, if the Marines hits there'll be no variation in Pen, every time he'd hit it would be the same Pen value.

That can't be right.....

An FGMP-14 won't scratch a Heavy Tank (AV 100), but you can cut through it with a Space Axe (Cutlass has no Pen rating) if you're wearing Battledress.

Definitely needs clarification.

I don't have T5, but....

Its not just that the 'knife' is hitting the tank, but you could also see it as a tank hitting the 'knife'.
Therefore, the damage would be limited to whatever the 'armor/damage' the knife could take before it breaks.
Most likely, the space ax would be broken against the side armor of the tank.

I have no idea if T5 gives enough information about the blade to determine its breaking point.

If you want some variation, divide 120 by 3.5 to get the appropriate number of dice.

Of course I think the knife would break before too long...

Yep included that in my post to the errata thread. I asked for clarification on how Blow and Pen work for the blades and clarification on how the Str/C1 modifiers from the armors work with these weapons and natural weapons.

As it's written it's very WH40K with Marines slicing through the puny tanks, which is great :D but not very Traveller :file_28:
