Betty & Bob and a ship called Hank

Sir Brad

SOC-13
"Hank" is a Stumper class 200 displacement ton Tech Level 10 Type-A Free Trader, it is functionally equivalent to and stylistically identical to the TL 10 versions of the Beowulf or Moraine.

Hank is spelt many ways on its official documents most commonly Ha'nk, but also H'ank, Han'k or even Hank' some times with multiple variants in the same document. no one alive knows the correct pronunciation of Hank as it appears to be from some non-local minor race language that was attempted to be spelt out with Angelic characters.

Hank was first laid down eighty years ago, but was re-manufactured around sixty years ago for some reason not made clear in it's documentation.

Hank is currently jointly owned by the Black Sky Trading Company and Black Sky Freight & Haulage both are subsidiaries of Black Sky Holdings that is itself owned by a consortium of other holding companies and so on, ownership stakes sometimes loop back upon themselves. their are no surviving mortgage documents for Hank and "he" was depreciated to a token residual amount decades ago.

Prior to the just completed annual maintenance Hank had bean armed and was fitted with a model 2 computer, the original model 1 was serving as a backup, the weapons turrets and main computer where striped out and sold off to pay for the maintenance, pay off the overdraft and over a years worth of crew back salaries.

After settling the ships finances and turning the ship over to the yard the Captain disappeared to parts unknown, much like the First Officer/Purser did over three months prior.

Merchant O4
Age 30

Bachelors of Astronautics (Hons.), Bachelors of Sratship Engineering, Diploma of Business (Logistics Management), Diploma of Hospitality, Starship Masters Ticket.

Service as: Drive Hand, Steward, Deck Officer, Assistant Helmsman, Navigator/Co-pilot, Deputy Department Head Engineering, Deputy Department Head Deck Department, Chief Engineer, First Officer.

Pilot 2, Engineer 2, Admin 1, Navigation 1, Seward 1, Vaccsuit 1, 0-G Weapons 1, Brawling 0, Computer 0, Communications 0, Electronics 0, Gravitics 0, Grav Vehicle 0, Mechanics 0, Small Blade 0, 0-G Combat 0.

Born in to a upper middle class family Betty wanted to see the Stars, but didn't want to die in some "Not-War" so she signed on to the merchant marine. for the first couple of years of her service she bounced back and forth between the Stewards & Engineering departments of the Type CT she was serving on before landing a commission in the Deck Department. Serving first as a general Deck Officer then as Assistant Helms-person, and for a time acting forth officer.

Part way through her forth year of service she was offered a Third Officers post as a the Navigator/Co-pilot on a Type R, two years later that ship was decommissioned and she transferred to a Engineering Deputy Department Head post outside the line of command authority despite having an O3 pay-grade, she found her advancement opportunities cut off, and after two years in the job till the end of her eighth year of service when she transferred back to Type CT's and the Deck department as Deputy Department Head of the Deck Department, though only Fourth Officer she kept her pay grade due to seniority and departmental responsibilities. over time her pay and departmental standing increased from time to time serving as acting department head and acting third officer her advancement continued to be sidetracked.

At the end of her tenth year of service she was offered the second officers and ships engineer post on an ageing Type A tramp freighter, Betty planed to spend only a year or two onboard padding her resume before returning to larger and more modern ships and hopefully the Deck Department, but after almost two years no opportunities had arisen, but the ships purser & first officer ran off, the captain made her acting first officer and had her take up co-pilot duties (in addition to her job as engineer) as the captain had taken over the pursers duties and the Medic took up double duty as Seward.

Turns out the Captain backdated her official promotion to the day Betty took up first officer duties and pushed through her Masters Ticket before he too disappeared after settling the ships accounts and putting the ship in for much overdue yard time.
