Beating a dead horse, i am sure....

Using the numbers straight from the book (T20), 1 starship ep equals 466.6666666666666667 vehicle ep's, and fusion-16 and antimatter are still out of line with 933.333333333333 fusion-16 ep and 1166.666666666667 antimatter-17 ep equaling 1 starship ep.

However, by changing the minimum size of fusion-16 to 1 vl (vs. .5 vl), and antimatter-17 to .5 (vs. .2), and the starship antimatter-17 to 6 ep per round instead of 8, we bring all the powerplants around to the same number of 466.6666666667 ep to 1 starship ep.

If we further deem 1 displacement ton to be 13.5 cu. meters instead of 14, they all fall into line at 450 ep to 1 starship ep. That is a reduction of 3.57% in cubic, but since everything would be affected then it isn't a huge issue.

The new issue is minimum sizes and fuel consumption. On my new list with 1350vl = 1dTon and 450 ep = 1 EP, the vehicle fission-7 plant uses fuel 21.43 times more efficiently than the starship fission 7, while the starship fission-7 is 2.143 times smaller at its base listed size, which incidentally can evidently be reduced to any size needed while the vehicular fission-7 has a minimum size of 6000 vl.

Each listed vehicle fusion plant's efficiency also makes little sense, both fusion-9 and -13 are 2x better than the equivilent starship plant but fusion-15 for both is dead on identical, then the fusion 16 vehicular plant is 1.5 times less fuel efficient. and then hopping to antimatter-17, the vehicular anti-17 is 50 times more efficient.

So i am asking for advice- which do you think it would be best to change, vehicle fuel consumptions, starship fuel consumptions, or both and bring them somewhere to the middle? or does someone have a nifty explanation for the differences? :D

Well I have a vague idea of what you're doing (very vague).

My take is since you've done all that work, what happens when
you do some of what you propose ?

Part of it being: which system is used most and needs to be modified
least ? Vehicles or Ships ?

How much damage are you going to do to a setting ? I mean that in
a fun-way :D

Simple answer #1:
The double efficiency for vehicle plants is due to the needed access space to maintain the plants; on vehicles, that space is exterior to the vehicle, and the plant bays are often opened to perform maintenance. On ships and the largest vehicles, that space is interior, and for simplicity, subsumed into the size of the plant.

I'm interested to know how you arrived at 466 vEP = 1 sEP.

This is something that was discussed a lot back in the mists of time and a satisfactory answer was never forthcoming.

i did it by breaking them all down to 1 vl iirc (would have to rebuild my original notes as the excel file they were in was dumped accidently) and finding the common points- which with T20's 1400 vl to 1 Ton displacement works out to the 466.666666666666667, and by changing it to 1350 vl instead comes out to an even 450 ep = 1 EP. When i get a chance i will go ahead and rebuild it all and post the step by step- if anyone is actually interested in the nuts and bolts.

EDIT: actually, i posted a bit of how i got to that a long while ago. dont have time right now but as soon as i can i will search it out...

as for the why and wherefore, the fact that to vehicle construction set and the starship construction set are so far off offends my delicate sensibilities is what got me started. i really feel the one should be a subset of the other and near as i can tell there wasnt a single deliberate commonality between them.

More than likely the vehicle set will wind up being the more used, but i will be using them both building MTU..and i would like them to mesh..

IF i can get permission i would happily distrbute to the changes i come up with for those who still are interested in T20 to test and use on their own..
otherwise it will be entirely a MTU thingy.

i found the conversion for ep to EP (vehicles to spaceships). 450 ep equals 1 EP. its in the power to volume ratio, although it must be done 1350 vl per dTon and it works for every powerplant except fusion 16, which is off just to piss me off. thanks hunter!;)
