In honor of the July 1st and 4th holidays
Interstellar Scout Service - Central Administration Memorandum
RE: The Smokey Pete Portable Grill by Flibinght Industries
A reminder to all active duty scouts. Use of this piece of equipment is FORBIDDEN on all scout ships at any time. These primitive "cookers" are a fire/safety hazard and should be deactivated. This is the fifth warning since a "Smokey Pete" caused the now infamous crash of the IISS courier Speedy Delivery into the Darcia Highport three months ago.
From the first memo:
Cr50, TL-7, Diameter 40cm, depth 20cm. (with matching lid and fuel hoses)
This device is an odd by piece of cooking apparatus whose roots are lost in the mists of time.
It is a black steel bowl supported by four retractable feet and is powered in an unusual way. Instead of using a hydrogen/oxygen fuel cell to produce electricity for a heating element it uses a hydrogen/oxygen burner reminiscent of a TL-7/8 rocket motor. The device is ignited manually with either a match or electric spark device and produces a series of small but very hot flames that by all normal standards (900F+) is much to hot for the size of the bowl and burns the outside of most food cooked on it. The fuel elements are fed by means of two hoses that have couplings designed to tap into the drive hydrogen test pipes and life support system. These devices produce an unsafe amount of smoke that requires shipboard fire sensors to be deactivated and places undue stress on the air filtration system in most ships. It is the recommendation of the committee to ban the use of these devices on all scout ships.

Cheers!
