Back to the 1950s

A late Second Imperium Scoutship crashlands on a planet whose TL 4 natives do not fully understand the technology but begin to reverse engineer it. They know nothing about the larger universe around them having been founded by a bunch of religious fanatics in the heyday of Second Imperium and with the subsquent Long Night were completely isolated. Of course, they manage to struggle their way to the 1950s with a space race. How do they react when they find out that the Stars were snatched from them by other humans. Similar to the IW Milieu but one could introduce all sorts of twists in Milieu 0.

Greetings and salutations,

Interesting question, Kafka. I suppose it would depend on the world government. Some of the world governments would welcome off-world contact, others would start building defenses to stave off the "alien invasion", and there will be the worlds somewhere in-between "welcome with open arms" and "if it ain't us, it's a target".

Well, I was thinking of using some of Atomic Horror or using things like Quartermass or the Science Fiction from the Eastern bloc. In which, the governments are portrayed as completely virtuous.

Alien invasion would not be a neccessary response remember this takes place in the aftermath of the Long Night.

True, true. But suppose a government-in-power is on the verge of being put out. Off-world contact is made and that give the government an idea. Taught the off-world contact as a prelude to invasion. Of course this is done over a period of several months or whenever the next election is held. The government will say that the opposition has been in contact with the off-worlders secretly before the "public landing". I need to develop this more. In fact, I should be writing this down.

I would use the analogy of Roswell as the booster program for the world and I chose the 1950s because Science Fiction of that era presents each country as the World Government which is quite belovent.

Recovery of Second Imperium, "aliens" really quite distant interstellar neighbours as well as humans would create a nice moral panic. Who is actually out there. As they tune in different signals they get a distorted view of their stellar neighbourhood. Older signals from the ROM still are being picked up tell of great Empires and clashing fleets, local signals have gone dead or have moved to another EMS containing all gibberish of the rise of the Imperium.
