Azhanti High Lightning Deckplans

CarlP

SOC-11
Phew. I finally did it. There was a thread on the Azhanti High Lightning a while back. It's been long enough that I've decided to open a new thread.

Anyway, along with the other insanity I've been engaged in, I've done my version of the deckplans of this ship. You can see them here:

http://www.starbeast.net/Carl/azhanti_high_lightning.htm

I tried to put as much detail in as I could, but I'll be honest--towards the end, I was getting a bit burned out, and might have started skimping a bit. :) I'll go back and update the plans later, but not any time soon. I'm going to be taking a break for now.

I'm open to any feedback y'all might have. Especially any errors that might have crept in. Otherwise, enjoy.

Supplement #5 says that more fuel is stored in the "rear fairings." I've always assumed that meant the rudimentary wings and the dorsal fin.

Very nice.

But seeing those deckplans just makes me thing of a question I have always had on that ship: where are the maneuver drives? The rear-most deck (the docking deck) has holes for the "exhaust", but there are no "maneuver drive" deck(s).

I guess it doesn't maneuver, but just jumps around. :)

Remember that many of the decks are repeated multiple times. So, repeat the fuel deck enough times, and then you have more than enough fuel.

The actual details of the deck repetitions are in Supplement 5.

The azhanti has stubby side wings not on the deckplans. I think they hold the m drives (and probably the fuel scoops and purification plant)

The exterior drawings appear to bear this out. No matter whose exterior drawings you are using. The Sup 9, the Sup 5 or TA7 (Cover and interior). Even the Lightning on the cover of the new Gateway book.

Most impressive! What discipline -- and generosity! Thanks for sharing.

May I ask what application you used to generate them? Is it that something-or-other Cartographer program?

Would you consider posting the source files (editable if you own the app)?

Thanks again,
Dan

PS - your submarine is also really quite nice...

Hi. Me again.

I'm glad y'all like my plans. It's really nice to be appreciated. I saw no reason to keep these files to myself after having done all of the work.

As for the application I did it in, I used Visio Home. I tried Campaign Cartographer at first, but just didn't click with that. I've been using Visio for years, and so I was able to get right to work on the deckplans. I've got a more recent version of Visio--possibly the 2000 version? But it was disappointingly slow. So I went back to Visio Home.

I don't have any problem sharing the source files. I can see about posting them somewhere. Meanwhile, I don't have a problem if somebody wanted to download the files that I've got up there now. I can see where it might be more convenient when gaming, if you didn't have an internet connection immediately handy.

I learned a lot about plans *and* about Visio with all of these plans I've done recently. Instead of doing any new ones, I think I might go back and clean up the plans I've already got out there. At any rate, I'll say this much. I think this is going to be the largest ship in my Traveller universe for quite a while!

Carl,
Again outstanding job. IN all fairness how often do you expect a player character party to actually be on a ship bigger than an AHL? Usually one would think that if a PC party was on a ship of that size they would be prisoners because they got caught doing something stupid, a passenger because someone highlevel wanted them transported someplace in a hurry where they could then take on a mission where they are a deniable asset. In both of thos cases the need for deckplans is definitely limited as the PCs won't have much access to the ship. Though the old prison break scenario raises its ugly head, I would hate to try to break out of the Brig on a Capital Ship where the Marines know the ship and you don't.

There is of course the other type of game where those plans might be useful though that is the Honor Harrington style campaign where the PCs are actually still serving members of the Navy in that case I guess you would need all sorts of Capital ships. (YIKES!)

Don't feel bad about not wanting to do more ships of this size.
Wht you have contributed is definitely awsome!

Or salavage of a ship that size. Then you could give the players the 'blue prints' of the ship but they would not know what was left or how unsafe certain sections are when they attempt to board and reclaim the ship.

I remember a scenario about one of the big ships that was attacked while doing an emerency gas gaint refueling

Bhoins,

You're right, it won't often come up. But I have absolutely no sense of perspective. :)

But seriously. I do find it useful. The AHL is the same scale as all of the other ships that I have plans up for. I find it useful to put them up in comparison to, say, the Scrutiny-class scout.

"This is your ship. And this is the ship of the villain that's chasing you."

"Run away! Run away!"
