No idea where this thread might live, feel free to move it
Has anyone found a good, preferably free reader for .epub files? I have tried "Free Editor" and while better than reading the xml file, first impressions are not great.

The best I've found is a toss up. I like Sony's reader, but it may not be available any more. I don't mind Nook's free reader, and it opens generic epub just fine, and is free (but hits you between books with adverts.)
I have used Calibre - it's not bad, but it's not quite as polished as sony's, tho' it opens just about every ebook format out there, except certain DRM ones. And converts them.
iBooks is nifty enough.
Kindle Reader only handles kindle files, apparently, at least on my Samsung tablet.
I checked out Nook first, but it required either Windows 10 or a Google account, neither of which I'm keen on. But calibre is looking good, much appreciated
For some reason I cannot get my kindle reader on android to open this - on the assumption that it's an ID-10-T problem at my end, can someone go through the steps to open up this file, please? Use single-syllable words, I'm a bus driver, after all
On iOS devices MegaReader ($1.99) is a good one. It reads ePub with no glitches. Tomes is another one that I have used, again for iOS. I can't get to App Store at work, so I can't tell you how much it is. Probably not much more than MegaReader. Both are very stable. Tomes has the advantage of being able to read several formats, including Moby and ePub. Won't read Kindle DRm'd book, hwoever.
I second the recommendation of Google/Play Book reader.. as it didn't have some of the margin issues that I had with Nook... and I still had issues trying to upload Agent in my Kindle.
I'm reading it on my PC with the free Kindle reader. I tried a generic free reader and I hated it. Kindle works okay. I ordered the hardcover and part of me wants to wait until then to read it, but I started it and I don't think I can hold off that long.
Heh! I got an email that said that people who had trouble with the formats provided and sent an email got a new link with a pdf, and to send an email if you wanted the new link.
As it is, I was able to get the .mobi file loaded to my wife's Kindle, so I guess I'll be reading it there.
