So I pulled out my copy of The Traveller Book and generated the following characters:

CO of a Graves Registration Unit, Arne became trapped behind enemy lines with his unit during an a counter attack. Arne mounted a clever guerrilla campaign making many of the enemy simply disappear, for which his unit became known as the Ghost Reapers with Arne "The Reaper" Hilton at their head.

Now retired Arne is thinking of going into business as an inter-system undertaker, repatriating the bodies of nobles and other wealthy sophonts who die far from home. He just needs a small ship and a discreet crew to do the job.

Of course there may be skeletons in Arne's cupboard, many people would like to know just where their relatives and former colleagues are buried and some would like to charge him with war crimes. Others may just want him dead.


Funny where inspiration strikes sometimes, or maybe its just that I need more sleep :coffeegulp:

that's an eclectic collection of skills for the commander. looks like her primary job was logistics administrator on an undermanned supply ship. probably a dedicated driven get-it-done-no-matter-the-cost-even-if-I-have-to-do-it-myself type. probably how she got to be a baroness, or maybe being a baroness helps her with her new assignment of ferreting out malfeasance and misappropriation of imperial inventory.

the major either becomes a target of one of her investigations, or he's her assistant by getting inside a targeted organization and feeding her data as to its activities. or maybe both, he's targeted then turns into her assistant.

when he gets into military trouble she rescues him through either computer or pilot skills, or perhaps admin as she bails him out of jail.

Background for Major Hilton:

Arne joined his homeworld's army as it was in the midst of a large scale expansion. He quickly tested into the Officer Corps, and was assigned to lead a electronic warfare platoon. They took heavy losses, but managed to succeed in distracting the enemy from a crucial artillery position, earning him a prompt promotion to Captain.

His next term saw him learning the art of war , and was promoted to Major. Unfortunately, the army didn't need his services anymore, leading to his discharge.

Description: A man of average build, but displaying an unusual spark of intelligence in his face, Arne Hilton can also give the impression he lost out on his career early.

My quick take is that the Major has become Commander of the Baronial Guards.
