2407AD

Loved the playtest files of 2320AD but it caused me to think about the great beyond. Just as my imagination soars by extrapolating today's world and making it fit into 2300AD/2320AD (as the original designers of the game did.)

What could we forsee as the future of 2320AD, I chose the date quite arbitarily feel free to push it forward, if you believe that not enough things will happen to 2320AD universe in 80 years...

My logic was what would someone in 1927 (remember this is the year Metropolis came out) make of the world in 2007. There certainly would be similarities, things would amaze and things like but also asking where is the Moonbase, Androids etc.

The pace of technological development in the 2300/2320 universe is slower than ours, for a variety of reasons. Playability is one of them, quite frankly. This is a factor that has to be kept in mind.

What do I personally, see? (That is me, personally, not per se as the writer of 2320AD)

Greater integration with Pentapods and thier biotechnology, and further advances by human researchers in biotech. This would possibly lead to some sort of conflict with non-human-friendly factions within the Pentapods.

Sung colonies on more Human worlds, and a further expansion of Sung interests to unexplored areas of the Chinese Arm.

Use of Ylii programming techiques and Human-built supercomputers to increase the performance, and possibly the range, of stutterwarp drives. This would be the primary technological advance of the period.

Further advances in personal energy weapons. Slug-throwers start to disappear as the primary infantry weapon, while plasma rifles are interated at the squad level, and even the fireteam level in some militaries.

Some stuff about the Kafers, which even as a thought exercise I do not care to divulge
.

Please note that none of this is official, and is pretty much just off-the-cuff.

Well, well, Colin, your comments are always welcome and fuel the need for a Traveller's Aide to cover the ground that you mentioned. Ok, I grant you the grounds for the need for moderation of technological development. But, this should be construed as an exercise to allow imaginations to run wild (albeit in a Hard SF milieu than Traveller).

Um, maybe not the Germans, but I could see an Alliance between some Kafers and colonist to overturn a French Governed Planet.

One of the ideas I had tossed around around at one point in time was a series of gazettes, to cover the period of time from the end of hte Twilight War to the current date, advancing in fits and starts. So each of these gazettes would cover a particular epoch, like first expansion, the Slaver War, etc. Such an idea could certainly be extended forward in time as well, I suppose. While such "future" gazettes would be optional, they could also serve to get a glimpse of the meta-plot, such as it is, of 2320 AD.
Each gazette could have a snapshot of the universe, the state of the various key nations, state of settlement, notable vehicles, weapons, technology and starships of the period, and some adventure seeds, perhaps a short adventure.

</font>[/QUOTE]Bah... by 2407 AD, the Kafers will long ago have been pacified by generous application of German chocolate.

Forget V1 and V2. Milka dark chocolate is the new German Wunderwaffe. :D

I understand this was all played out (at least to some extent) as a giant metagame with different GDW people taking different nations/regions (up to 2300 anyway). An interesting way to generate a future history.

The even more interesting thing was whether any of this development was recorded or is recoverable by contact with the original involved parties? I mean, obviously the amount of stuff that made it into the official original timeline is visible to us, but what about the dead ends, ideas better thought of, or just left out due to space or other considerations?

It would be interesting to fill in the detail (some of) for the missing years, but it might be even moreso if we could recover any of the prior work or any prior insights derived in the development of the original 2300AD timeline.

Of course, it would be interesting to develop forward as well. :0)

BTW - any updated date for release of the 2320 dead-tree book? I must admit I'm anxious to lay down some $$$ for it. :0)
