Zhodani Consular Guard

Blue Ghost

SOC-14 5K
Knight
Is there a formal name for the Zhodani "teleporting" commandos, or are they simply part of the Consular Guard?

I've looked throgh GT Aliens, Traveller Wiki, and can't seem to find my CT classic reprint to find out anything more. Any information would be of great help.

I think they may have been given a name in some piece of (fan?) fiction on them. Or was it something more official by MJD? Or maybe they were just called commandos? I seem to recall a Zhodani name though. The story was about (in part anyway, might have been just one scene) a teleport assault against an Imperial ship and was a pretty good read, wish I could recall the specifics to track it down, sorry :(

Thanks Far Trader. I always appreciate your input. I also seem to recall some official exotic name, but it escapes me at the moment. I forge on with my new fiction. :)

I didn't see a name in GURPS Traveller's Zhodani section.

IIRC they didn't produce a name for the time spent in Jump Space
either, which I came up with:

Code:
*****************************************************************
Note: strangely lacking in GT: AR1 p38 the Zhodani Calendar would
be the Zhodani equivalent of a week, mainly due to Traveller's
preoccupation with a week in jumpspace. We'll take the opportunity
to coin the phrase: CHEKLZAZHD, "Jump Time" or "Jump Period" for the
period of ~168 hours, or 6.22 Zhdanstial (days).
*****************************************************************

Another old HIWGer and I came up with a name for a hypothetical "CIA" equivalent branch of the Tavrchedl', but I've long since forgotten it.

The idea was that these folks managed the unrecoverables. If no amount of adjustment or reassignment within the Consulate could make a Prole fit in, they would be handed to this department for tasks outside the Consulate. Some would become long-term field agents, but most were trained for and deployed on "masquerade" style missions and not expected to come back. It wasn't that the missions were all that dangerous, just that they required a face the native counter-intel folks had never seen, and the one-timers were trained to blend in, on the assumption that wherever they were going would be more attractive than the Consulate. It helps that the space around the Consulate for a sector in all directions is loaded with border traders, ex-pats, and abandoned colonies full of ethnic Zhodani.

Boy, I would loved to be the proverbial fly on the bulkhead when there was First Contact between the Vilani & the Zhodani... I had always assumed that the Zhodani would have kept their commando division a secret until about the 5FW as a way of inspiring fear for only by that time the 3I would have developed the technological response to neutralize the rippers - who stole helpless Imperial children and beat up Imperial Vargr.
