What's your fav. alien and why?

I was curious(and bored), so I ask you:
What is your fav. alien and why?

I like Hivers myself because they are so strange and different.

For some reason I loved using Sydite NPC's in my play test campaign. I guess they are just alien enough to get noticed, yet are still human so you can have some points of reference. Sydites love to eat pumpkins, did you know that?

I like soft cuddly furry female Kittys....like ASLAN....here kitty, kitty, kitty....

First Vargr baiting...

Then Vorpal Bunny breeding...

Now Aslan cuddling!

Admit it! You're a Furrie-phile!

I have two favorite aliens:

</font>
  • Aslan - A good hair-triggered warrior race to unleash on a bunch of big-mouth PCs. Not to mention gender roles can start trouble!
    :D</font>
  • Droyne - I allows like the caste concept in Sci-Fi. The psionics can really throw a group for a loop. Not to mention after getting the group use to the typical droyne, throwing in a surviving can really ruin a person's day.

As a honorable mentioned, I bring up the K'Kree because "dem be good eatin's".

A shameless attempt to woo Eak!
Shoulda thought of it first. ;)

But seriously...

The Aslan are my favorite aliens. Honor, gender roles, two different languages, and the women rule the purse strings! Just like in my house... :D
wish I could go out and just hunt... ;)

After them, ye alien of aliens, the Hivers...always pushing someone elses buttons..
like some folks on this list! ;)

And the Vargr. But then, I like dogs too. If I *was* a furry, I'd be a labrador. Always looking over the next hill,...sorry drifted off to a past life! ;)

I think my preferences are fairly straight-forward:

1) Hiver: the mentality is great for RP.

2) Droyne: the race is a good challenge, and really brings a certain atmosphere to the game.

3) Darrians: they're a human offshoot, but they are the closest I've got to Vulcans in Traveller, and I grew up inspired by Vulcans in my Star Trek reruns.

I like a lot of the others, too, such as Vegans, Aslan, Vargr, Dolphins, etc, but these three are my favorites.

I have to admit that I've always really liked Hivers, perhaps because they were the first Traveller alien I was exposed to, via JTAS 13 (I think) which was one of the first things I bought after the little black box...

Compared to the other Traveller alien races, they still seem very original. I was never much impressed by Vargr and Aslan, but the Hivers are this totally bizarre species with a very intriguing society.

Plus, they're cool looking.

I've always had a soft spot for the Ael Yael. I like to make PC's have to remember to look UP once in awhile

But they are an interesting race. They were first in JTAS15 and then recently in G:T AR4.

One of the most fun characters I played back in the CT days was Ael Yael. I went the whole nine yards with a silly, slightly lisping accent, and nervous twitch that almost grew to a seizure around merchants. Wish I could remember his name...

Out of the T20 book, I like the Luriani best, I think. Just off enough from human to have a few quirks.

Much as I want to answer Vargr, I have to admit that in my heart of hearts, my real favorite is...

the ASLAN!

The whole way of the warrior thing, the gender differences, it's all so cool! The Vargr are a close second, though!

Virushi are pretty cool, all that muscle on a vegetarian pacifist... what a waste.

The Hivers are convicingly alien... wierd-looking, odd motivations, strange society...

But the Aslan are my favourites. Players learn to have their characters behave around Aslan, which is always a good thing. Plus you can have great fun winding up the ships engineer by always refering to him as "her", and demanding that somebody serve as a personal steward to some big male Aslan with a bad attitude.
I once used a male Aslan as an NPC, who refused to speak Anglic, even though he understood it perfectly well.

Sounds like the makings of a poll!
AT 15 posts we have 5 votes fer Aslan & Hivers (a tie); Vargr with 3 votes; Droyne & Ael Yael with 2 votes each; with Virushi/Darrians/Sydites/& Luriani, with 1 vote each.
Hmmmm.

Well, for just one vote, I pick:

the Bwaps aka Newts.
Why? Hey, I'm a bureaucrat in the real world. If I had one of these guys working for me my all my problems would be solved

Seriously, they are great NPC's. I can't understand why they didn't make it into the T20 handbook

As for the rest:
Major races: I'd go along with the Aslan-Hiver-Droyne thing. Vargr are ok. I'm not high on K'kree.
Minor races: I see someone put the Virushi in
Very good. The Darians are cool too. I'm not high on the Sydites, or the Ursa[?spelling].

Bwap are good. I use em, too. (There's one in my Belladonna adventure thread on Random Static, a Federal G-man, er bwap...I did him in Columbo-esque fashion...seems dull, plodding, but he gets the job done & the bad guys too, no baggage involved.

In deference to the Luriani, (Ancients geneered water world humans, they can speak. IIRC, the Aquans of Gushmege (Vilani-geneered Scanian-humaniti of that sector-1st Imperium) cannot speak, but use a sign language, akin to what deaf people use.
Then, in the RIM regions(Sol Rim/Alpha Crucis), the Solomani had GenAssist (2nd Imperium) raise the Mermani. Like the Luriani they can speak, and endure deep depths, breath air/ have gills...
seems everyone has had their hand at it save the Third Imperium!

For me its gotta be Droyne - my favourite CT adventures were RSG and TP - in my campaign the Droyne were slightly more ambitious than CT/MT really allowed.

Hivers were cool but were too far away to really affect my campaign.

Vargr and Aslan make good PC's.

Never knew much about K'Kree as only just bought the module.
