Wanted: NPC's (Low Passage Manifest)

plop101

Absent Friend
Ok, here's the scenario. The 2 PC's are on a salvage expedition on the SS Zivijean Glory, a Type M Sub Liner. I'm using Adventure 13 and the 'Partnership' listing from Gamelords 'Wanted: Adventurers'.

Ok, so the crew and the passengers are all dead, except for the 20 in low passage. And so, after getting the ship's air system back on line, the 2 PC's look at the Low Passage manifest, to see if there is anyone there they could unthaw to help them run the liner back to port.

So, folks, who's in the low berths?

I'll put in 5 - not all with necessarily useful skills...

1: 76B7AC, 26 year old noble (uh) Baronet James Similir. Charisma-2 Fencing-4 Equestrian-2 Business-1 Instruction-1 Language-1 Computer-2 Knife-1. A kind of "black sheep" (not enough to get himself untitled) who makes his living teaching fencing. Once in a while takes low passage for what he terms "the thrill."

2:A99BA5 28 year old scout, Janice Natial. Pilot-3 Computer-2 Electronics-2 Mechanical-2 Navigation-2 Engineer-1 Gunner-1 Grav Vehicle-1 Medic-1. Ex-scout who is cheap. Very cheap. So cheap she prefers cold sleep to all other forms of passage - including working.

3:976889 30 year old ex-merchant Captain Anders Harvick. Leader-1 Commo-1 Pilot-2 Computer-2 Broker-1 Vacc Suit-1 Navigation-2 Grav Vehicle-1 Streetwise-1 Admin-1 Legal-1 Ship's Boat-1. Is travelling to the destination in order to pick up the Free Trader he got while mustering out (the middle and high passages were full).

4:397363 24 year old Rogue Malina Kekoian. Dagger-2 Perception-2 Computer-1 Mechanical-1 Camoflage-1 Fast Talk-1 Stealth-1 Survival-1. Ex-prostitute who managed to get a TAS membership. Is going low passage to avoid certain "troubles" with her origin world's nobility...

5:79A337 22 year old Army Sergeant Oleander Hicks. Heavy Weapons-2 Rifle-2 Battledress-1 Grav Vehicle-1. Travelling on the Army's dime to his new unit. Knows how to drive and kill things - and little else. Takes direction easily...

RainOfSteel asks:
What was the M-Sub Liner's last port of call?
Good Question. It was running from Roup/Sp Marches (HI/In) to Regina/Sp Marches (RI); the ship apparently did a misjump to an asteroid belt in the Hefry system.

Other issues; the deceased passengers included a Imperial Governor-General for Roup, his four security guards, and a musical group known as the 'Screaming Wacker Nutters', with entourage.

Hmmm... I suppose some of the folks in the low berths could be roadies for the band.

And another tidbit:
I ran the cargo for the ship; 40 tons of Iron/Metals and 45 tons of Pharmacuticals.

So, folks, who's in the low berths?
Riddick...

Ripley...

Newt...

Hicks...

Hello Jame...

Odd. A Noble in a low berth. Whats his/her story?

To quote from Adventure 6: Interesting.

from Sig Oddra:

 Like Santanocheev working for Lucan, one sorta could see that coming. Obvious and yet so inevitable. Anyone want to flesh this one out?

</font>[/QUOTE]He's going incognito, or at least without fanfare.

On a side note, did you want backstories with them, or were you going to create them yourself? (Just to hedge my bets, I'm going to put in the backstories I came up with, but you can do what you want with them.

Well, Sigg Oddra forgot to mention Khan, he's in there.

Let's see.

You've got several from Jame.

How about an aquaculturalist (water farmer) expert from Roup en-route to a conference on alternate food production technologies on Regina? Yes, I made up two of the skills.
(F/Human) 677898 36 year old scientist. Aqua Suit-2, Computer-1, Jack-o-T-1, Horticulture-3, Grav Vehicle-1, Mechanical-1, Small Water Craft-1

Ok, here's what we got so far:

1. a Noble incognito
2. a Miserly Scout
3. a Merchant in search of his ride
[let me stop here for a moment. The Merchant Captain, did you have a notion of which Merchant Line he was working for, Jame? It may be important].
4. a women of questionable means
5. a army man doing the permanent change of station thing
6. a water farmer

After watching Fifth Element and Pitch Black, I think I should throw some sort of religous functionary in there. I think I got a MT chargen for a religous career somewhere in the hard copy, I'll pencil and paper that up tonight.

7. a priest or other religous functionary to be named later.

X number of Roadies for the rock band.

Yeah, the berths are filling up quite nicely. Thanks dudes!

Nope, sorry, plop. All I can tell you is that he is (a.) a CT Book 7 design and (b.) from a Subsector line. So if you know of any, pick one.

Don't forget to have a cliche or two!

One or more of the low berth passengers are criminals being extradited between Roup and Regina. The LEO in charge of them was travelling 'warm' on a mid passage. The cop is dead, no one currently aboard knows about the extradited criminals, and the paperwork that would reveal all is somewhere in the dead cop's effects.

A low berth passenger with critical skills; or just dangerous ones, is beginning to exhibit signs of survivor's guilt. They were part of a party whose members had split their passage between 'warm' and low tickets. After learning of their friends' deaths, the low berth passenger is becoming increasingly unbalanced.

It's always nice to throw your PCs a few curves.

Sincerely,
Larsen

Oh, speaking of cliche, we forgot a TAS Journalist.
On what they get paid? He'd be lucky if he could voucher for the tube of super-glue so he could sneak a ride on the outside of the hull

But that gives me an idea. How about a stowaway, and a kind Captain (or Ship's Doctor) who upon finding said stowaway took pity and popped them in an empty lowberth rather than spacing them (all before the catastrophe of course). So you have a mystery guest who isn't on the manifest. A wild card if you will.

Ah, and another thought. The low berths will be full. Once the warm bodies realized thier circumstance (if there was time) they'd have drawn straws for any empty berths. That might even be why you have a noble in a lowberth, lucky draw.

Edit: Ah, but of course you said the berths were all in use so you may have already come to that conclusion. Or the line just does a good job of filling the slots.

They didn't have time. The scenario stipulates that the 'warm bodies' got hit so fast they had no time to put on vacc suits.
