I'm converting Verge Sector raw data from the wiki into a SQL database and found 26 systems with duplicate names. Is this correct or was there an error?

Code:

This is higher than the normal number of duplicate worlds in a sector. But not, to my knowledge, a mistake.

I do remember from a geography class many years ago having the professor note it was possible to track the expansion of different ethnic groups settling from the east across the mid-west by the names of places. People tended to name places after the places where they came from.

For example, Portland Oregon was named by two men, one from Portland Maine, the other from Boston Mass. Both wanted to name the city after their home town, so they settled it by flipping a coin.

It would be interesting to map out where the duplicates are, and devise a history of repeated colonization during the second imperium or Long Night or Third Imperium.

I cannot say that I am a fan of more than one planet having the same name. Were the names generated randomly, or assigned?

The Spinward Marches is the same. There are two Aramises, two Mirriams, two Kinorbs, two Heronis, two Inthes two Margesis, two Natokos, two Tenalphis, and several other pairs of world-names which are either very similar, or effectively the same but for a minor spelling difference.

I understand that is the case with the Spinward Marches, as I have one of the early printings in hard copy.

I have been studiously avoiding that in the sector I am working up. I will likely give the background of each planet's name in the sub-sector description and trade route guide that I am working on.
