You're moving to Ogden?!? Well, I live in Salt Lake, I can tell you that the state of game stores down here is . . . ok, think positive! Right!
A little south of the middle of the Salt Lake valley, about 6400 South on State Street, is Hastur Hobbies. It's mostly an RPG and minatures store, with a few books and comics on the side, plus a tiny smattering of Anime if you look between the cracks (might as well go online for it). They also have about twenty PCs in a network and sell game time on them along with a speedy internet connection.
I know there are a couple of others around, but honestly, they're bit players, by comparison.
Never having lived in Ogden, I can't tell you. I've never checked up on it. (I'm sure the Ogden game stores who've shown up at the Dealer's room for the last 13 consecutive SF/Gaming conventions we've held locally would be thrilled to hear that I have no idea who they are!)
Just recently, well, about five months ago now, a game/comic store that lasted for over 20 years, Comics Utah (CU), with a storied history of many ownerships, and which I'd patronized for most of its history, was closed by its relatively recent out-of-state newest owner for not being profitable *enough*. Just like that, 20+ years of history was shot out the window. After that, I really didn't care much about the other stores. I usually get stuff from Hastur, because there are some former CU people there, or online.
Mechwarrior minature gaming is pretty big around a lot of games and miniatures stores right now, being the current fad. MTG still sees activity. Living Greyhawk gets activity around here, too, D20-wise. In fact, it's been the biggest single set of gaming events at CONduit (the convention I mentioned above) for the last two years.
If you ask around and pursue it, there are gaming people around that you can find. A lot of the groups around here, the old ones, are pretty insular. I'd look for newer groups, the ones formed more recently. Ask the game store managers every time you show up. Put up notices and be prepared for not getting answered right away. Every 2nd Saturday of the month, at 10:00am, at the Salt Lake City Sprague Branch Library, the CONduit convention committee meets to discuss Con affairs (you can find the Game sub-committee there, and they can tell you a lot about the gaming community they are plugged into).
The above is only what I know, and I'm a bit of a gamer-geek/nerd (the h*ll you say!) and am somewhat shut-in.
Not only will your milage vary, but I hope some of the more well-connected people around here (at least one of whom I *know* is active on this forum!) respond to you with better information.
