Traveller is an entertainment device, and as such is it's own excuse-there is no need to justify the giving of innocent pleasure to others*. But I would also like to give thanks to the people here for the things I have learned about "real" life.
Far-trader and Starports, for instance, taught me quite a bit about the transport business. Of course such things have to be taken with a grain of salt-they are after all sci-fi and I have to sort things out. Nontheless it was good to learn.
As an example: I am a tour guide in a maritime museum in Portland Oregon. When showing the tourists a map of the cities Portland traded with I once used the "Gravity Model" given in Far-trader as an anology. I hope this will be useful with other tourists.
