TravellerMap mismatch

Daddicus

SOC-13
I found an entry on TravellerMap.com's data that doesn't match my paper copy (1979). Actually, quite a few, but many are similar to this:

In The Chronor Subsector of Spinward Marches, there's a world called Gyomar (hex 0108). In my paper version, the UWP is D8B2889-5. on the map data, it's C8B2889-8 (starport and tech level are different).

In general (not just for this instance), how can I tell which is "correct"?

To my knowledge, Traveller map gets updated very regularly. So I suggest that Traveller map is correct.

My understanding is that the TravellerMap data is based on the T5SS data, and supersedes previous publications. Go with TravellerMap unless you feel there is a glaring error that needs DonM's attention. (Or you can always go with which ever one you prefer, of course :)).

In general, the T5SS data has been carefully vetted to retcon "anomalous" or "unlikely" UWP situations, and has updated them to be something more plausible.

Is T5 SS public info? Book? Website?

I looked on the map site, and they reference it, but I can't figure out where the raw data "lives".

I'm honored and humbled to say that, at least for now, TravellerMap.com is the distribution site for the data. The raw files are spreadsheets flying back and forth in private email between Don, Marc, and others. They send me drops and I update the site when possible.

...and this data is accessible, in SEC form, via Travellermap's API. In other words, the current data is what's returned. For example, Deneb:

http://travellermap.com/sec.aspx?sector=deneb

And I'm the editor/central contact for T5SS, although Marc reviews all changes and gets all spreadsheet updates.

The goal of T5SS is to provide ONE source for OTU data for authors and writers for future projects. Mongoose projects regularly use various cuts of T5SS data, although it's ongoing, so we do occasionally change published information. Cirque and similar projects also use T5SS.

By making cuts of data available on travellermap.com, we make sure that the data is publicly available, and everyone can contribute to pointing out problems and fixing them.
