TravellerMap - Hex Lines

I'm copying out a sector map from TravellerMap poster maker (an excellent tool) and then filling in hexes with specific colors. I'm using good old paint. However, the names printed on the map white out parts of the hex outlines so when I try to fill one hex with a color (paint can), I might get one, two or many more hexes filled as the color spills into adjacent hexes. Is there any way to force the words behind the hexs therefore maintaining all the hex outlines?

I think you can turn off all the words. Go to the API section and look there for commands/views.

Also, you could consider downloading HexGIMP a free hex-mapping software for fantasy games. But all of the paint brushes are in hex format and it uses layers so you could move them back and forth yourself or just fill in each hex with the tools.

(Of course that could be a lot of work ;-)

another option that may work is to draw a line on the hex of the same color as the hexes themselves. But that would be a bit of work as well.

Oh, I've tried that. WAY TOO time consuming, but I tried anyway.

I'm working on a macro in Word to pull in a sectors data, then overwrite the planet names with blanks. For what I'm doing, I don't need the names. This produces very good results but still working on getting a macro to automate the process.

If you have Adobe you can overlay the hex with a colored one, but you will have to reduce the opacity to allow the text to show

Maybe create a hex overlay and stick it on top? I do that with GIMP for my maps. You'd have to find a hex grid with a transparent background, but if you had that it may work (I've not used Paint much in the last few years as I've gone all masochistic and try to use GIMP )
