SOC-9
Yesterday was character creation day for half of my players. We gathered at a local restaurant that doesn't mind putting up with us, because we're not very loud, and we tend to order a lot of food and drinks.
The entire event was a blast. We started by randomly generating the player's homeworlds. There wasn't much enthusiasm when we started, but as it progressed, my players got excited as it explained things they were thinking of for their potential back stories.
My first player pretty much setup how things were gonna be. She had a trend of failing survival rolls, and essentially any important roll that would have brought her good things. She hails from a TL6 toxic desert, democracy, law level 4, no starports. She did two terms as a Psion Healer Chirgion (sp?) before her talents were discovered and she had to flee for her life. Her next career was as a Psion Scholar Physician, until an experiment went wrong and she gained 1 level of Psionic Trauma. I decided to have her make her Mental Stability roll, and she ended up with a fear of vegetables. There were much jokes involving veggietales. It doesn't help that she was on a garden world for this career. She also has a 105k debt from her psion training.
My second player came from a tainted TL3 frozen ball run by a charismatic dictator with a law level of 9. She went the Investigator Undercover Agent route for two terms, but got injured in an ambush that saw her partners killed. They paid for half her medical bills giving her a 2,500 medical debt. She was miffed that her employers would fire her for that, but moved on to a Spy Infiltrator. She actually did well in this career mustering out with 55k. She paid off her medical debt.
My third player came from a TL9 (i think) exotic desert, religious dictator ship, law level 9, class B starport, TAS and Imperial Consulate bases. He went the Navy route starting with flight for one term, then moved over to a Fighter Pilot, which didn't end well. He was captured. They got him out, then discharged him. He went the mercenary route with a Spec Ops Commando which he did well in mustering out with a little bit of money and some armour.
Equipment still needs to be purchased.
I have three more players that need to roll up their homeworlds and characters. Everyone will also be creating their own subsector of space.
My game will run on alternating Thursdays.
