Welcome to the new COTI server. We've moved the Citizens to a new server. Please let us know in the COTI Website issue forum if you find any problems.
We, the systems administration staff, apologize for this unexpected outage of the boards. We have resolved the root cause of the problem and there should be no further disruptions.
Is this only for settings derived from the classic Third Imperium mileau and history (like with the Solomani & 1st Interstellar Wars) and such?
Or do you also include settings that are not at all connected with the Third Imperium in any way, such as Outer Veil, Clement Sector, Orbital 2100, HOSTILE, These Stars Are Ours, and etc?
Also, what rule set are you going to be using? With each different rule set, the view of the Imperium changes quite a bit. In T4, the Imperium is just beginning, in MegaTraveller, it is in the process of disintegrating, and in The New Era, it is gone.
I am currently reading "MGP3802: The Spinward Marches" which seems great to me, but I don't have the depth of experience that most COTI members. I thought that perhaps someone compiled a list of "great ones".
I thought that COTI might have some recommended favorites. I have read somewhere (can't remember the reference) that some of the earlier works were superseded. With the large volume of works available I am not sure which ones are necessarily 'canonical' anymore. But from the responses I am getting, perhaps this is simply too broad a topic.
The only big timeline elements that are no longer (or never were) the main timeline are the GURPS "No rebellion" events (though the TAS News is still great for depicting Solomani politics), and the 1248 post-TNE wars, which the author deems non-viable since the nature of the Empress Wave was changed from annoying to lethal.
There are going to be shorter events that have been cast in a different light or altered, but the flow of history is largely unchanged.
A couple of the novels done under license are questionable, as well.
Mongoose has a habit of altering details, but these are usually not events. Their picture of both the Aslan and Vargr are more...sensational... than previously presented, and I suspect they'll be doing the same to the others they write in-house.
