Topornin??

Sturn

SOC-13
I left a note for myself in a document concerning a possible lists of corporations I might use for a campaign (my Long Night Terran Dawn research). One of my notes in my corporation list was simply "Topornin?" Now, months later I don't recall where I got this name, I think of a Traveller corporation. I've tried googling (it appears to be Russian) and TravWiki. Nothing I can find and my poor memory is legendary.

Anyone know where I picked this up? I'm all about completeness in my research and don't want to delete it and move on without figuring out why I typed it in there in the first place.

OK....digging out my copy of GURPS Interstellar Wars (I might stick with CT, but I'm not above parting out good info to use in it from other sources and this was a good one about different ship design rules)

“Topornin/Rostovtzeff T.O.O. (Tovarichestvoc Ogrannichnuu Otvetstvenuu or “limited liability partnership”) is the largest Russian company engaged in off world trade. Within the Terran Confederation itself it is a relatively minor player, but it is investing heavily in potential trade into the Vilani Imperium. It has been quite successful in opening markets on the kimashargur
worlds closest to Terra, sometimes using innovative techniques (i.e. smuggling) to avoid Imperial restrictions on Terran trade. Topornin/Rostovtzeff is the second largest participant in the Free Traders Association (after the High Frontier Development Consortium, and operates several exploratory-trade ships of its own.”

Thanks Sabredog. Not sure why I didn't include it in more details in my original list. I think I decided to make it one of the corporations that fell to the Long Night, but later decided to include it? Have it now on p.68 Gurps IW. Gurps IW was one of my primary resources so of course I didn't imagine that was where I got it! :)

No problem...I got GURPS:IW because I liked the idea of maybe running a campaign based on Imperium like you could with Fifth Frontier War. The players could be involved actively as military commanders or commando agents on the Terran side and using the rules from FFW to inject PC inlfuence they might affect the tide of war.

Ala, it never took off since the players at the time didn't like the idea. But the ship information gave me some new ideas to add to my regular CT campaigns by adding a little variety to the design rules. Although I do prefer the rules for fixed-mount weapon design for ships in CT (the fired from the bridge thing) to what I saw in IW.

But I always thought that the Imperium game thing would be a great campaign since it would be smaller and more manageable on the PC level (thereby allowing the players to have more influence on the overall war) than FFW, and it was the most interesting space opera OTU I ever saw come out for Traveller. At least the only one that seriously tempts me to this day to abandon my 30+ year old non-OTU CT campaign and try the house game out.
