TL-A Stewards Toolkit

I'm working up a Ship's Purser/Steward for a Mongoose Game and I decided to have a bit of fun with the role. Every self respecting Engineer carries his/her own tools.. why not a Steward?

TL-A Steward's Toolkit - 1000 Cr, Weight 12 kg
Includes:
-Self Sharpening Chef's Knives (You'll be Cooking Quite a Bit!)
-Robotic Peeler and Mandoline (Julian Hash Browns - No Problem!)
-Reusable Microcleaners (Move over Scrubbing Bubbles!)
-711th Generation Roombaa!
-Autosew (for mending and darning)
-Smart Steam Bag (for Pressing Service)
-Shoe Autopolisher (for Shoe Service)

What else might the well equipped, high tech Steward have in his professional gear to make his job easier? All suggestions welcome!

lots of those mints for pillows - perhaps a mint fabricator?

handy guide to etiquette for the multitude of systems to be visited

small-scale toolkit, for assisting in replacing those batteries in passengers devices (except for those from a small boutique system - they keep changing their screw types to keep people out!)

guide to food allergies

Some sort of specialized computer / reader / recorder that allows you to read product coding, order items, track customer orders and, keep tabs on numerous people's expenses and payments. Sort of a cash register, accountant's books and, ATM all in one.

You would need one when working with lots of passengers or as a concergie.

Yep, what Enoki said, at least in my TU where Steward is more the business operator for the ship than simply a servant to crew and pax.

My Stewards start with a HandComp full of business programs to handle all the cargo buying and selling work, advertising for pax, clearing customs, prepping the ship for flight, etc... there's very little of the job that is actual hands-on service to passengers, and that is mostly during jump. Yes, this makes my TU at odds with the simplified basic OTU description where it seems to be primarily cook and cleaner.

That's kinda a neat idea :) One that would allow you to tailor the mint to each passengers particular tastes and biology. Maybe with a dose of anti-jump sickness med. And for the sneaky ones a mild suggestive drug so they enjoy the trip and tip better. Or for the criminally sneaky Steward... a knockout drug so they can pilfer the cabin, steal small valuables (gems) and replace them with forgeries (which same mint-fabber is built to replicate).

The nice thing about toolkits is that you can put them in robots. So instant robot steward.

bah! I'm not shelling out 10k to have a ROBOT handle my needs! I demand a REAL, HUMAN steward!

*grumble grumble next they'll tell me they only have synthecaff, or that the neoduck is vat-cultured!*

For a small free trader I could see it. Not for a large passenger liner though.
Although, actually you are describing the executive functions of the Purser not, the skill set of a ship steward.

In my TU, different cultures have different names for similar functions. And the functions tend to be subtly different even when they appear to be about the same. And by 'different cultures' I mean that two different Imperial shipping lines can have very different cultures.

That said, IMTU the ship's business operator is the Purser (or the Supercargo). The stewards do what the Steward skill indicate that they're competent to do.

Though any high muckety-muck who boards a Free Trader expecting High Passage type service is away with the fairies (and a great source of innocent merriment).

IMTU, of course.
