The Zhodani Conspiracy & Quest for the Ancients

Got these old DOS games based on Megatraveller working great on my Win7 laptop using the latest Dosbox. Amazing the detail and depth in these games that are under 1 mb. Interface is a bit clumsy, I think this is more the fault of the company hired to program the game (Paragon) than GDW. Too bad it costs so much time and money to make a computer game based on Traveller.

DOSBox works great for any DOS game that needs CDROM.SYS and audio DOS drivers to run. More powerful than just opening a DOS prompt in Windows. I'm running Star Wars X-Wing Fighter on my Windows 7.

Yes Shonner is right, it is more than a dos window, it can replicate a full IBM PC with special graphics cards and everything. These Megatraveller games are easy for it but it can also handle some very complex games from the end of the dos game era.

DOSBox is emulator software that emulates (loosely: "simulates") an IBM PC compatible computer running the older operating system, MS-DOS. Many IBM PC compatible graphics and sound cards are also emulated. This means that original MS-DOS programs are provided an environment in which they can run correctly on many modern computers running a variety of operating systems.

I also use a "loader" as a front interface. D-fend reloaded seems to work great for me. It sets up the game in a virtual hard drive and everything. I suggest you setup dosbox from their download.

DOSBox is great. However, 'taint perfect. For the few dos games and apps that don't run, and for early Windows games, QEmu running the correct OS is a far better solution, albeit one that is more disk space intensive.

Never even heard of that before Aramis, have to check it out. Thanks
