There seem to be two times when the Emperor makes his appearance: On New Year's Day, and on his birthday (which seems to have shifted over time, now settling on August 29 by some strange coincidence).

The reaction to, and the feedback for, Characters, Tasks, and Skills has been gratifying, and also strengthening, for the final texts.

Personal combat is coming next. I have pulled my hair out about parts of it, but it achieves many things that Combat needs to, and more. I am looking forward to seeing the feedback it produces.

After the Combat postings, we're going to be seeing (fairly quickly) World Mapping (all the way from Star Generation to 1 km Single hexes on a world surface (and there's plenty in between). It's interesting how chapters build on each other, so the Aliens chapter becomes the foundation for creating Androids, and then for creating Robots. The chapter on the Senses becomes the basis for the chapter on Starship Sensors, and that becomes the basis for Starship Combat. I think I have resolved some of the 30-year-old controversy over the size of Computers, but probably opened up several other cans-of-worms.

There's more, of course, but it's worth the anticipation.

There are some specific people that have made notable contributions to the current process, and on this, the occasion of the Emperor's Birthday, I wanted to express my appreciation and name names:

To Daoloth for his special services organizing the errata.

To Andrew Boulton, FreeTrav, Fritz_Brown, Kurega Gikur, lspitz, ronnyquest, Scott Martin, and Whipsnade for their general service. Their reviews of texts on a preliminary basis help make what COTI sees so much more polished.

To Apparition, fridge, Ganymede, kilbrj, Magnus Thornwood, Nick Nova, sturn, grendelttroll, and twwoombat for their specific efforts reviewing the various rules.

I'll close by encouraging you to get involved. The pre-publication patrons of T5 get special consideration and participation in the Private forum and its draft texts. You can participate as well when you order the T5 CD ROM (at www.farfuture.net).
