T5SS mistakes in Daibai Sector?

Not necessarily. Duplicate world names within the same sector are almost a Traveler tradition. The Marches, for example, have several.

I'm actually surprised there are not more duplicate names. I recall taking a class in Geography. In it the teacher explained you can trace the waves various ethnic groups as they leapfrogged each other moving westward across the US, simply by the place names.

There is a also a meme that every state has a town or city named "Springfield". This isn't true, but many of them do. Last time I looked there were at least 15.

If anyone has any published canon material on Daibei, point me at it. Because we didn't find much.

This is the major one I know of and I guess it isn't canon:

Article: "Daibei Sector: Library and Map" by Nancy Parker & Aleatha Parker (pgs 22-25) from Traveller's Digest #15.

Don,

These are the other Daibei sources I know of:

|S1= CT Atlas of the Imperium
|S3= MT Alien - Solomani & Aslan (dotmap provided)
|S4= MT Alien - Vilani & Vargr (dotmap provided)
|S2= GURPS Traveller: Rim of Fire
|S5= Mongoose Traveller: Solomani
|S6= Article: "Daibei Sector: Library and Map" by Nancy & Aleatha Parker (pgs 22-25) from 15

Thanks!

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

There are also a few TAS News items and spot data scattered through the MT material (since Daibei was a "faction"), but those won't usually be UWP references, just things a next stage sector detailer will not want to ignore.

Actually, that should be canon, or as canon as it can be.

What doesn't match: I'm not seeing anything here that corrects your original issue of the duplicate names...

And again, if you've got an item which was missed, pass on the error and the reference...

Rim of Fire doesn't have any Daibei world info in it that I'm aware of (I was a playtester for that book ages ago).

As to the other sources, what specific errors are you pointing out?

I'm asking because the source of the T5SS data for Daibei was a sum of all of this, so before I schedule an intense look, I'd like a reference to data that was missed.

Hi Don,

Other contributors listed those items. I haven't directly researched them myself yet. So, sorry I don't have the droids (...umm, answers) you are looking for at this time...

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Maksim-Smelchak -

To be clear: the only issue you're noting about Daibei is that there are duplicate world names. Is that correct? And these are not contradicted by any source, correct?

If so, there is no issue, and Don can relax. :)

Not so much errors as references.

The Numbered Fleets of the sector are in MT RSB, page 26.
Depot/Daibei is listed in MT RSB, page 34.
Rebellion-era Intelligence agency is discussed in MT RSB, page 40 (implications for pre-Rebellion Warinir?)
Senior Duke of Daibei is named, MT RSB, page 42. This may contradict other mentions, or it may be his surname.
Brief sector history, and Rebellion developments. MT RSB, page 64-65.

Duke's full name (which handles the above mentioned name issue), TNE Survival Margin (SM), page 4.

TAS item 341-1117 from Amdani/Daibei. TNE SM, page 14.
TAS item 197-1118 from Warinir/Daibei. TNE SM, page 17.
TAS items (4) from 1118. TNE SM, page 18.
TAS item 299-1118 from Narya/Daibei. TNE SM, page 19.
TAS item 261-1120 from Warinir/Daibei. TNE SM, page 25. References three other worlds: Uston (0139), Aston (0140), and Sinell (0127).
TAS items (2) from 1121, TNE SM, page 30-31.
TAS item 125-1122 from Warinir/Daibei. TNE SM, page 33.
TAS item 282-1123 from Warinir/Daibei. TNE SM, page 43.
TAS item 131-1124 from Warinir/Daibei. TNE SM, page 45.
TAS item 065-1129 from Warinir/Daibei, TNE SM, page 60.

We've got valid data. There's been a question about mistakes in Daibei sector, but no mistakes have been posted, and no one has stated a reference that contradicts the existing T5SS Daibei data.

Given the number of projects at the moment, and not a single actual issue has been noted, I'm not reopening the Daibei data at this time.

Well, Don really cannot relax.

The current T5SS effort is:

1. Gateway (under review, draft up at travellermap)
2. Crucis Margin (993 under review, 1105 in preparation)
3. Vanguard Reaches (1105 under review)
4. Beyond (1105 under review)
5. Far Frontiers (1105 in preparation)
6. Theta Borealis (1105 in preparation)
7. Vargr sectors

Which is why I'm not wanting to open Daibei unless there's a problem.

Actually, [Traveller's Digest #15] should be canon, or as canon as it can be.

Don, I hate to reopen a closed sector, but several -- though not all -- world names referenced in TD 15 are different in T5SS. I assumed they had been purposefully changed, since some names made the cut. In case not, here they are the changed names:

 • Nuurikii (Daibei 2530) - named Chemi in "Daibei," TD 15, p22.
 • Bertelsmoin (Daibei 2121) - named Amarsi in "Daibei," TD 15, p23.
 • Sooke (1737 Daibei) - named Charon in "Krimm's Paw," TD 15, p12.
 • Novoya Kiev (2729 Daibei) - named Flamme in "Daibei," TD 15, p22.
 • Vlaska (0728 Daibei) - named Gershunas in "Daibei," TD 15, p22.
 • Kirsch (2415 Daibei) - named Gilden in "Daibei," TD 15, p22.
 • Biscut (0830 Daibei) - named Haden in "Daibei," TD 15, p22.
 • Erin's Star (1819 Daibei) - named Mater in "Daibei," TD 15, p23.
 • Oregon (1736 Daibei) - named Stasin in "Krimm's Paw," TD 15 , p12.
 • Kuguli (0624 Daibei) - named Vaal in "Daibei," TD 15, p23.
 • Liva (0424 Daibei) - named Sotto in "Daibei," TD 15, p23.
 • Lombardi (2214 Daibei) - named Wagnild in "Daibei," TD 15, pp22, 23.
Also, the 261-1120 TNS update from Challenge 65 (and reprinted in Survival Margin) mentions Aston (Daibei 0140), named Thread in the T5SS data. It's almost certainly not a misspelling of neighboring "Uston," as this world is mentioned in the same item. The same entry also references Sineli (Daibei 0127), named Lopadusa in the T5SS.

At last, references. This I can track down. Reviewing.

Update: Didn't DGP and GDW even look at their own sources. Don't answer that. So this is one of those times when I have to put on my archivist hat and flip a coin.
