T5 Question - Equipment Chapter

I'm browsing through the last pages of the book. Some of those pics of the ships are excellent. I love the shots of the Beowulf.

My question: In the equipment chapter, there are listings that say "Unclassified" and "Omitted".

I'm curious about that. What's going on there? Is that just author notes that should have been deleted before print? Or, if it is supposed to be there, is it supposed to mean something to me as a reader?

Rob? Don?

Hi,

The way I read those are that those specific sections are not detailed (deliberately) ... kind of like the 'page intentionally left blank' notation ... and that such letter sections are being 'reserved' for future supplements ...

I would think that they would just be omitted without comment, then. It's the note saying "info not here" that puzzles me.

I think the layout of the chapter represents a notional "Central Supply Catalog" that contains everything possibly available to a PC or NPC.

Each section or grouping is denoted by a capital letter i.e. Protections are A (as in armor), D is Detectors, G are Gases (non-breathing) etc.

I and O are never used in such systems to avoid confusion with 1 and 0.

H and J are currently unclassified but could probably be used for "stuff" that doesn't fit anywhere else i.e. J is for Jeeez I dunno, and H is for Hang it over there for now...

You are closer than you think...

Actually your theory is pretty spot on as I recall. Also, I seem to recall that some stuff was cut out (no really, things were cut, there was editing happening :)) to save space, the I & O bit is quite correct. And I am not sure if H & J ever had anything. Hope that helps.
