Hello,
I'm planning to GM a new Traveller campaign starting early next year. This will be a face to face game running weekly or bi-weekly in my basement. I expect the games to run on Sunday afternoons for either four or five hours (with time for food).
The game is set IMTU a few hundred years after an event called "The Shattering" in which 90% of sophants died off and most computing devices failed. In addition there are now things that go bump in the night.
Yes, there is magic in this campaign, but it shouldn't effect the game any worse than psionics would have.
The Mi-Go have sold technology and teaching to the humans to allow a small pocket empire to get up to very early TL 12 (most of the Commonwealth is at TL 10 or 11). Even at that, the commonwealth is still under siege from pirates, from reavers (insane pirates) and the Black Ships.
Most of the star ships are those left over from before the Shattering that have to be carefully maintained.
One of the first missions shall be to find a hidden per-Shattering naval base of mothballed ships. The prize for finding it: one of the hulls outfitted to working condition as best the government can do.
And there will be true surveying and discovery because very little is known more than a couple parsecs outside the Commonwealth.
