The survey requires an answer to the question about add-ons, but there is no "None of the Above" answer. In a post on Kickstarter, Marc says to just select the novel and he'll figure it out.

Novel selection no longer.

"My attempt at surveys (for some of you) did not fully allow for answers like “None Of The Above,” and so you found yourselves unable to complete the survey. That’s frustrating for you and for me, and I apologize.

Moreover, Kickstarter doesn’t allow do-overs or multiple surveys. My work-around is for you to select Deck Plans as a choice, and I’ll know what you mean.▮

Marc"

So none of the above is now officially select deck plans, and not the novel now.

Yep. The survey is a train wreck.

At the question: "Tell use if you added anything to your order", I just typed in "no". Then I didn't select any of the radio buttons below. Everything went fine. (I already have the novel and the deck plans. I would have ordered the card decks if they had been offered, but they weren't.)

The survey reminds me of T5.0 - needs some editing by someone other than the author. I had already put down the novel as per the 1st update on the survey, and just added a note in the Moot question about no add-ons. Then he changed his mind about what to pick in the following update after people had already done what he asked for previously, or figured a way around it.

So I'm leaning towards the train wreck as well...

Still looking forward to the books. As I never played a merchant character, I came up with a random name I kinda liked, and the trader is the No Refunds I'll have to come up with a backstory, and it may feed into my solo Traveller game I am experimenting on in my blog (buried in that overly large sig I've got down there)

Before casting stones at Marc for the survey, how about everyone ask themselves this question.

How many games have I personally designed while also living my life?

I have designed one, edited a couple, and modified a lot. Yes, Traveller 5.10 will likely not satisfy everyone, but that is the nature of the game. Marc's doing all of this himself, and that is not easy to do. I am having a hard enough time finding time to work on stuff for my version of Cepheus Engine, and make sure that any supplement also works with Traveller. Marc and I are in the same age bracket, so how about cutting him some slack and back off on the negative comments?

not casting stones per se, but the "doing it all by himself" is part of the issue. He actually has had a fair amount of help during this last process, and has had many offers for assistance, some of which I believe are professional editors. But proofreading just needs to be done by someone else. Or a smoke test for the surveys, which I don't think you can do with straight Kickstarter so that may not be an option.

But: he said one thing in one post, then something different the very next day (or later that same day, I did not check the date stamps). So those are where my remarks are coming from.

Regardless of how that may have been interpreted (and electronic commentary is notorious for not handling nuance) I am looking forward to the books. It was not intended as an attack, just an observation on how that specific part of the process is going. And I think it was...badly handled with the 2nd post. The 1st would have been okay had he left it there, but conflicting follow-up message is the wreck part.

I don't mean to disparage Marc, or anyone, here, but you make it sound like this is a hobby and not a profession. Services for compensation. The customers are not patrons with the expectation of having to put up with some idiosyncratic artist. They're customers ostensibly buying from professionals and all that entails.

I am having a hard enough time finding time to work on stuff for my version of Cepheus Engine, and make sure that any supplement also works with Traveller.
That's all well and good, but folks aren't paying you for it, not yet at least. What you do on your time, on your projects, is on you. You have no responsibility to anyone but yourself.

But at some point, when someone hangs out their shingle, and puts a sticker on their work for others, then a line is crossed. And it's no longer their time. Now they're in the consumer's domain. Now it's consumers time, their money, and it's not unreasonable for them to have expectations.

Stand behind it, or don't, as the result is a projection of the maker.
