Sylean Poni

In the story I'm writing the Sylean Poni is a reptile, with three toed feet, multiple colors, and snorts snot at kids who bother it. Sometimes it's nice to have sci-fi and create stuff. A bit more intelligent than the modern horse, and perhaps more intelligent than humans know.

So. Camels then.

Excerpt 1

Spoiler:
"That's Bertha, she's pretty moody." Coach Lily said as the team came into the stables. One of the ponies had snorted at them, spewing a wad of snot on Jo's right boot.

"Ewww..." Mon said, looking at Jo. "That's gross."

Bertha looked at Mon and snorted through her armored nostrils. Most of her hide was tough and scaly; just the lower part of her chin and the inner thighs on all eight legs were soft enough to flex easily. Like the other ponies, Bertha was mostly green on the top and orange underneath. Her front shoulder was a full two meters off the ground and her triple clawed feet could dig into the dirt securely. Two other ponies stuck their heads outside their stalls and looked at the newcomers. Their long necks were able to just about reach the team as Coach Lily walked down the hall introducing everyone.

Jo had stopped at Bertha's stall. She timidly stepped forward and slowly extended her hand to the long orange underside of Bertha's neck. "Is...is this right?" She asked.

Gray smiled and walked to stand beside Jo. "She likes it right here. Knead your knuckles in hard, here. Don't be shy, you can't hurt her even if you punched as hard as you can. Besides, with her head or tail she could knock you down easily. Might want to be a strong friend."

Lily watched the two girls talk and saw Bertha's inner eyelid close slightly. "Very good, Josephine! Bertha likes that, and she seems to like you. Let her smell you a little more and it will make mounting easier."

"Okay everyone, we're walking slowly by the stalls so the ponies can smell you. It looks like Josephine has found her mount, the rest of you will spend time with each of the ponies to see who accepts you. We have one of the largest stables on Wardn and one of the two dozen ponies here I'm sure one will take a liking to you. If not, we can usually bribe them with greega fruit."

Excerpt 2
Spoiler:

"While a poni won't exclusively bond with one person, they are somewhat intelligent and prefer their friends, two or eight legged." Coach Lily said.

When Coach Lily had mentioned "somewhat intelligent" Gangster turned his meter and a half neck around and swiped Gray with a long forked tongue. Still, he patiently let each team member climb up into the saddle and he walked around the outside pen with Gray holding one set of the reins and the team member the other.

Hey Leitz,

Neat bit of prose. Thank you for sharing it.

To my knowledge, the ubiquitous Poni gets mentioned often, but I don't recall thee ever having been a canon write-up of the beastie.

Positive vibes to you!

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.
