SurvivaTool

Todg

SOC-13
The Swiss army knife and beyond.

The SurvivaTool is a compact combination tool for survival on planets that support sophont life without requiring special protective gear.

Available at TL 7, the SurvivaTool is about the size of a cell phone and masses 250g. The STool separates into two componants, joined by a short tether. The electronics half contains an electronic compass, watch, timer, barometer and electronic distress beacon.

The main body contains knife, scissors, saw, screwdivers, corkscrew, can opener and flashlight. A small compartment contains a magnesium firestarter with striker and lifeboat matches (although other items can be substituted). There is also a signal mirror.

The lanyard has a whistle and penflare launcher with 3 flares.

The STool costs cr50.

A lower tech version, available at TL 6 replaces the lectronics with a conventional compass

Inspired by the Schrade Navitool and i-Quip. I modified my navitool by adding a magnesium firestarter with striker, and 10 lifeboat matches in preference to the lighter they show. I also hund my penfare launcher and flares on the lanyard as desribed above.

I like it. You need a better name though.
Also I'd add some kind of fishing line and/or wire for snares.

I like it too, but this might be more serviceable if it were larger... say boot or thigh pouch sized? I sawed through a pvc pipe with me trusty Leatherman Multi-tool and some considerable elbow grease once, though i banged the crap out of me kncules in so doing as the sawblades relatively small size made it slightly awkward...

All in all, Top Drawer this one, what?
