Supporting a Fraction

I think everyone should vote for 7/9ths. It's a very underestimated fraction. :D

Isn't this one also called "7 of 9" - and blond and buxom?

WOOT! I second the motion on 7/9ths!

but to be contentious as the Rebellion, I'll say a petite 11/16th's brunette to a buxom 11/28th's redhead for ole 'Hard Time's' sake. ;)

My favorite fraction is 220,000/70,028. It is a very useful fraction, used thousands of times a day. Well at least the quotient is.

EDIT: After seeing XO's fraction I will change my favorite to his (see below).

As to which faction to support I chose Terrans (Solomani). But I have something of a problem with the listed options. I think the poll should have been limited to those factions that originally began within the 3rd Imperium and exclude the Vargrs, Aslan, Zhodani, Solomani, and start your own. But that's just me.

I'm partial to 355/113. Easier to remember, and a very close approximation.

And I was always a big fan of Norris. (And later, the Regency.)

I'm lost past 7/9. If there's an explanation I'd love to hear it.

I do like 8/11, but that's personal to me.

The other fractions are methods to approximate pi.

I am impressed with 355/113, as it matches for six digits on the right side of the decimal point, and the seventh digit works for rounding.

22/7 isn't nearly as good, as it only matches for two digits. It does suffice for rough calculations, though.

Of course, many of us don't need the fraction, as we accidentally memorized the display from the calculator: 3.1415265
. I have no idea why I still remember that.

Whew, that's a relief
Probably just a slip of the key on daryen's part but it did have me wondering this morning since I have long rounded to 3.1416 when I don't have a Pi (mmm, pie) key handy. Heck if I don't have a calculator I'll round it to 3.14, good enough for most of what I need it for ;) I even hear rumors that GURPS rounds it 3

Yeah, I screwed up on the typing. The sad part is that I repeated the number (correctly) in my head, but missed the missing 9. :(

(Obviously I know the number; otherwise I wouldn't know how it compared to 355/113.
)

I had a friend in college that memorized pi to some ridiculous number of digits (it was a nerd thing). I contented myself to what a scientific calculator showed.
